Are you asking because you are considering reading it? Or asking beacuse you read it and want to open a discussion about it? I just wasn’t sure how to answer. I read it and loved it. But if you don’t like nature and outdoor survival type stuff, it could possibly get into too much detail for some. But I adored it!
It was a good book. It was a bit of a slow start and the end dragged. I read it after reading The Nightingale hoping it would be as good. In my opinion it was not, but I still enjoyed most of it.
It was pretty good but not fabulous. The end was trite and predictable. The description of survival in Alaska was the most interesting part. I wasn’t at all interested in the teenage romance and I thought it was too accepting of the violent codependent relationship between the parents.
Keeping in Kristin Hannah fashion… I felt it was good, then slow, then got good again and the ending felt rushed. I enjoy her books but they all seem to go in that way (for me). It can be triggering because there is domestic violence. Just a warning to you or anyone else who may want to read it.
I just finished it. I was really disappointed in it. It’s so depressing, and I didn’t think the writing was all that great to be honest. I love KH but this was not one of my faves..
It was ok. I finished it because i don’t like to give up on books but I wasn’t a fan of the writing. The story was good but I felt the character development and writing were both very poor.
@Vivienne We are all entitled to our opinions. What one hates, another loves.I liked The Great Alone very much but, of course, you are entited to hate it.
I didn’t like it. It was very slow, and so many horrible things happened in the book that I found it to be unbelievable. It definitely stays with you, but not for good reasons.
It’s really good.
Awesome book!
Not a fan.
I absolutely loved it! Wasn’t sure where it was going at first but it’s definitely worth the read.
Loved!

Hated it. It was good until it wasn’t.
It is very good, made me think a lot. It’s also infuriating through large parts where I wanted to hurt certain characters.
A great read
very good. I was very mad at a few characters, and it ended up going in a direction that I wasn’t expecting, but overall, I’m glad I read it. ?
I really liked it. It was a different kind of story that takes place in Alaska.
Good read.
Yes, read it. Didn’t love it but many on here enjoyed it. Hope you do.

Pretty good…….predictable
Oh my goodness. It was so good. I was not overly excited to read it but was totally drawn in. Alaska itself was like another character in the book.
Oh, I love that: Alaska itself was like another character in the book! 🙂
First half kept my attention, second half was a chore to read.
@Phyllis I read ahead to find out what happened and I did feel that it took a while to read the end.
Yes, I skimmed the entire second half. Much too long in my opinion.
I enjoyed the whole thing.
Loved it!
Loved!!!!!!
Liked it
Loved it
I really liked it for the tough topics that were addressed but the location of the story.
It’s a very moving story!
The best book I read this year.
And I didn’t think it was a mystery so the predictability of it was not a big deal, although some things were a surprise
Slow start for me
??
Loved it!!!!
Powerful! My favorite read of 2018
Very good. Really enjoyed it although my two sisters couldn’t understand why I loved it!!
@Vana cause it was like watching paint dry ?

@Vivienne We are all entitled to our opinions. What one hates, another loves.I liked The Great Alone very much but, of course, you are entited to hate it.
@Vana not taking sides – but Viv is right! ?

@Adrianne life would be very boring if we all liked the same thing ?
Stayed with me for ages loved it. Want to visit Alaska now
That’s why I liked it. Alaska is great.
I know I’m in the minority but I did not like it nor did the people in my book club
Agree
Likewise. Another recent book set in Alaska is “The Simple Wild” by KA Tucker. I loved it far more than TGA.
Yes – not a favourite I have to say
