@Jo It would be a spoiler to say why, but I am always disturbed when I read about the evil and prejudice that happened during WWII. The book is well worth the read and very educational.
Such a poignant story and I am anxiously waiting for Lost Roses to arrive . Lucky enough to have heard Martha speak and have visited the house in Bethlehem , CT
It was one of those books that I was glad I read it….hated what I learned from it. So i had mixed emotions about it myself….but it is a great book about that unfortunate historical time.
I would have enjoyed it more if I would have realized it was based on true stories before reading it. Not knowing that while reading, I found it to be just okay
It is absolutely one of my favorite books. The prequel to it: Lost Roses, is equally as captivating. Martha Hall Kelly is writing another prequel.(Gin Lane)
