My friends and I read this when we first moved to San Francisco in 1968. Changed my life at the time, but not sure it would hold up today.
@Helen that’s amazing! I’m only 28 and have always been into the beat generation, read several Wolfe, Kerouac and kesey
A great peek at the counter culture of the times. I still reference it to this day. Recently bought it for my 19 yo son.
When I saw the original comment, I thought it couldn’t be true ? now I have to read this book simply because of the spectacular title!
Yes! My father got it for me for Xmas in high school. One of my favorite books by one of my favorite authors.
Yes love the beats it makes you want to throw caution to the wind and live under the influence… that’s what reading is for- so you don’t actually have to do it to “experience” it ??
