I think it was reissued when they made it into a movie – 70’s maybe? It is historical fiction, so the books themselves are not ‘dated’ as realistic fiction would be .
LotR (as has already been mentioned) Raymond E Feist’s Magician (though it does tail off and isn’t worth pursuing past 3) Various Michael Moorcock eternal champion trilogies
The Century Trilogy (Ken Follett), The Inn Boonsboro Trilogy (Nora Roberts), The Last Hundred Years Trilogy: A Family Saga (Jane Smiley, Plantation Trilogy (Gwen Bristow), The Century Trilogy ( Petra Durst-Bennington) toname a few. I love trilogies /series.
The Lumatere Chronicles (Melina Marchetta) – starts with Froi of the Exiles. Megan Whalen Turner’s Thief series (though it’s a little more than a trilogy). The Wrinkle Quartet by Madeleine L’Engle. So many more – some I am not sure how many books there are going to be though. Jeanette Walls basically has a trilogy of her memoirs – The Glass Castle, The Silver Star, Half-Broke Horse’s (I think that’s correct).
