I have a lot of books from when my mom died a few years ago and often come across notes she’s scribbled on some of the pages and highlighted paragraphs, to know her thoughts in that moment and what parts touched her, makes me smile, I love it 🙂 even library books or pre-owned books I buy online I don’t mind if there’s writing on the pages, means someone else enjoyed that same book, also makes me curious, wish I knew what they were thinking and feeling in that exact moment.
I came across this really good condition 1900 book: The Unknown by Camille Flammarion. It has a folded Washington newspaper sheet in it December 17, 190?. It reports amongst other things that in New York with one vote to spare they have approved construction of the Pennsylvania Railroad tunnel. Lots of racial issues reported that we would find shocking these days.
very cool, I love old books and have several myself including a few Native American books each over 100 years old 1890-91-95..anyway the book you have maybe you should have it appraised, who knows it might be worth something if not now, someday
Thanks for that; actually I live in Spain. That particular book would be of interest in the US, though UK is nearer I suppose. I will do some research on the internet. I have quite a few and I do not want any of them now: I need the space for other things.
there’s a book by j.j. abrahms that’s designed to look like a library book. it’s awesome, i have a copy. i’ll try and remember to take photos and post it tomorrow.
No, it is like walking a path or driving a road only to find your progress stopped by a fallen tree, a flooding stream or creek, or fence. Please no underlining, no notes, and no highlighting. If it is your book do as you please, it is your book! I don’t do these things, but that is the book owner right.
No. I hate to see writing in books.
Yup. Connects me with those who have held them in their hands. Think of how connected we already are!!
nope, and if i’m able to, i get rid of them

Yes. I find it interesting to see what the people before me connected with in the book.
Love it
I also feel like a bit of a daredevil when I do it.
So wonderful finding out what other people were thinking/feeling when reading ❤️
Wow! So good to be able to have different opinions peacefully! Thank you!!
I love it; I’m always excited to see notes, scrap bits of paper, etc.
i feel like someone’s telling me secrets ?

Yes! If there are multiple copies of a title I want, I’ll pick the one with notes. ?
My son is a PhD student in English Lit, and he loves reading other peoples annotations.
Yes. Love them 🙂
Yes. Battered, written in, dog eared. The more used the better.
