All the time. I want more fantasy that have LGBT characters in them. No sad coming out story. Just like badass characters with magic that happen to be gay. As a bisexual, I need more female/female relationships in my life.
I dont meant to hijack your post but does anyone know any lgbt kid friendly books? My daughter is 12 and just came out and is a book nerd like me. I want to find something for her to read.
Ivy Aberdeen’s Letter to the World by Ashley Herring Blake. It’s a middle grade novel about a 12 year old who develops a crush on her female friend and she’s coming to terms with her sexuality. I really enjoyed it. Very innocent and perfect for a young girl.
Hello there, I’m Zach and I turned 18 in September. Over the summer I purchased ‘The Miseducation of Cameron Post’ a lovely coming of age LGBTQ+ book by Emily Danforth. It was also adapted into a film that was released this year xx. I hope this helps.
Cindy Woodruff I’ve read the first trade paperback volume of Moonstruck by image comics and it’s quite PG, she might like that. It’s basically a cute little story set in a city and there are anthropomorphic characters and characters with magic and all that just weaved in like its normal and the two main characters are a non-binary centaur and a lesbian werewolf.
There are LGBTQ+ characters in all the books I write. They aren’t coming out stories or anything like that. Modern Fantasy or Dystopian/Apocalypse with some characters that happen to be LGBTQ+ which is my favorite way of reading that genre. I read the same way. I don’t read coming out stories etc but I LOVE characters that are LGBTQ+ and of all colors, shapes, orientations, religion etc.
Not sure what you mean. If you are asking if I go looking for LGBTQ books I don’t. I usually read fantasy, chick lit etc, not straight romance, if that’s what you mean.
No not my preference but I have read one book by Julie Richman titled “Henry “ it was well written and he was a character throughout her Moore Family series.
I do, but I’m disappointed in a lot of LGBTQ books. They’re always “about” being gay, or stealing someone’s significant other because of repressed sexuality. Snoresville. I like my gay books a little more involved than that, but because it’s not a widely popular genre at the moment, that’s all that seems to be available. However! I see that changing soon, and I hope to be a part of that change! The ya fantasy I’m writing features a slew of LGBTQ characters, and I, myself, am nonbinary and demisexual! ? #representationmatters
Yes, and I’m an LGBTQ Author! I have 4 adult LGBT books, both romance and fantasy, published under a different pen name. For this pen name I’m writing YA LGBT novels
@Simon, you’ve never read LGBT fiction? I read everything, gay, straight–if it’s well-written, it’s worth reading. There are some excellent LGBT authors.
I doubt I have any. Can I have some recommendations?
I have books on Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling, The School for Good & Evil by Soman Chainani, The Land of Stories by Chris Colfer, Disney stories by Serena Valentino, Disney Twisted Tales by Liz Braswell, A Time of Destiny & Warriors of Piathos: The Circle of Destiny by a friend of mine named Chris Morris.
decades ago….”The Well of Loneliness (lesbian love story), and “If its love, the Lord won’t mind” (gay male love story)by Gordon Merrick, if I remember the titles correctly. Back in the day when many(most) were still in the closet.
Yes. I love them. From Simon vs the homosapiens agenda, Aristotle and Dante Discover the secrets of the universe, Whatever, Call me by your name, the gentleman’s guide to vice and virtue, the rest of us just live here, I’ll give you the sun, and many many more. My favorite genre
The best LBGTQ novel of the year is Less by Andrew Sean Greer. I also love Paul Russell. His novel The Coming Storm is pretty good. I read a lot LBGTQ novels, and am always looking for new titles.
I have read a couple, but I don’t go out of my way to read those that are specifically in that genre; mostly just literary fiction books that might have LGBTQ+ characters.
Not LGBTQ books but few suspence novel I read have characters of that sort for example in Patricia Cornwell’s novel Dr. Key Scarpetta have a niece who is police officer & even in Lin Anderson’s books there are few characters
I write LGBT books as Im a gay author, and I like to write most of my stories from the perspective of a gay character. My books are character and story driven, but they also have explicit sex scenes which act to drive the story forward. I dont write sex just for the sake of sex. And the same can be said for most LGBT and MM books out there. Its a wonderful community and one I am very proud to be a part of. My other author head writes horror.
Yes amongst every other genre, there’s some great authors and writing. The sexualities of the protagonists or author doesn’t make the choice of story, the tale being told is everything. We should all read different points of view and lifestyles different to our own. It’s helps further develop empathy and understanding.
I have read a few. I’m so pleased to see they’re becoming more common. The representation is so nice, given that I’m bi. My favourite one is probably The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee. Such a great book, so entertaining.
What’s that?
Hmm.. Alright
Not generally
I love them! I also write them sometimes.
All the time. I want more fantasy that have LGBT characters in them. No sad coming out story. Just like badass characters with magic that happen to be gay.
As a bisexual, I need more female/female relationships in my life.
@Jasmine You have to read Children Shouldn’t Play with Dead Things by Martina McAtee- several LGBTQ couples throughout the series
@Debbie Thank you so much for the recommendation! I’ll have to see if my library has it. ?
@Jasmine if they don’t have it, you might be able to request it.
Yes!! I love seeing diversity in fiction
I don’t personally but I support the genre and the movement as a whole; indefinitely! ?
Yeah!
I dont meant to hijack your post but does anyone know any lgbt kid friendly books? My daughter is 12 and just came out and is a book nerd like me. I want to find something for her to read.
David Leviathan has quite a few out, but I’m not sure of the rating. They might be more YA than Middle Reader, I’m not sure which you would prefer.
@Emily i will check it out ty!

If she enjoys graphic novels, Tillie Walden has some really beautiful work ?
Cindy Woodruff I’ve read the first trade paperback volume of Moonstruck by image comics and it’s quite PG, she might like that. It’s basically a cute little story set in a city and there are anthropomorphic characters and characters with magic and all that just weaved in like its normal and the two main characters are a non-binary centaur and a lesbian werewolf.
Haven’t thought to try one!
I don’t go out of my way to avoid them or anything, but I don’t think I have. I just go by plots though
I’ll have to go look one day then. The closest I’ve gotten is Highly Illogical Behavior

captiv prince is a great serie by cs pacat and the song of achilles is also great
My next book is boy erased which is a true story
As in romance, or featuring gay characters? No to the former, yes to the latter. I just don’t like romance of any variety.
Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe
One of the best books I’ve ever read.
Yes! I loved it
Yep! I’m getting ready to start Janet Mock’s latest book. She is a trans writer/producer.
I read anything that interest me. Some have lgbtq, some don’t.
@Christine yeah same
I don’t think that’s the criteria I use to pick a book… If it sounds interesting I read it!
@Munnu maybe not but its an interest on you books
Not sure what you mean. If you are asking if I go looking for LGBTQ books I don’t. I usually read fantasy, chick lit etc, not straight romance, if that’s what you mean.
Not usually. Non-fiction but not fiction. I find they all tend to be a bit the same…kind of like hallmark xmas movies.
A lot, as an LGBTQ person I like to relate to characters I read about.

@Simon, you’ve never read LGBT fiction? I read everything, gay, straight–if it’s well-written, it’s worth reading. There are some excellent LGBT authors.
