I like both, but I agree with DonnaJo Stone that each book should be stand alones. I do not mind a series but usually 3 or 4 max would be nice . Just my opinion.
Depends on my mood and the story. Some series get stretched too far, some standalones have so much they would do better in 2-3 parts. My very favorite though is series that don’t need to be read in order. Like detective books where each is a fully contained story but the characters carry over so you can still have that deeper, on going connection with the characters without having to reread the entire series every time the next one is released to remember what happened so the new book makes sense.
That’s how I’ve written my series. Each story is self-contained, but characters appear in all the books. There are mentions of things that happened in past books, but nothing that would affect reading the one in your hand.
I’ve learned that I don’t like series as much, I adores the Outlander series, but could get into the 4th book… But I did finish a YA series by James Patterson, the witch and wizard series.. It’s a much easier quicker read though
Both. I love revisiting characters I love in series. And usually authors with series tend to have more consistent releases/writing so it’s taking less of a chance on books. I also love standalones because it’s less of a commitment. And I don’t have to catch up as often.
it depends… if i really like a book or a world i get sad that it’s over… so in that case i’d love it to be a series… but if i read a book and i don’t like it i feel kinda obligated to read the rest bc it’s not finished… i don’t always do it but i feel bad if i don’t??♀️ but even if i like the books i often need breaks when reading a series because i want to live in a different world for a while. get to know new people…
I prefer a series. I invest in books emotionally and mentally. I love characters who are well built and when I get into an engaging and beautiful world, I don’t want to leave it. I know it’s probably on the wrong side of normal, but I just love visiting these friends with each new book!
That’s how I write my series. The books are stand-alone, but the characters interact through all the books. That seems to be a favorite with lots of readers.
Single novel.
Mixture. I can’t read back to back series, I need stand alone breaks in between.
Yes
Single. I am not big into commitment?
Personally, I prefer a single novel
series!
It is also a pain when the author waits years in between books when reading a series.
Single!
It’s hard to say. I like any well-written book. If it is a series, each book needs to stand alone.
Both!
I tend to read more series but when I’ve read several in a row or one long series. I enjoy reading stand alone books.
I prefer single novel.

GM for grand master?

Series but will read both
I prefer a stand alone book
Both…and I enjoy a stand alone series as well as a must read all books series too.
Both.
I love series but, I HATE cliff hangers. If it’s a series, all of the books neds to be stand alone for me.
Stand alones, I get bored with series.

Something about a duology makes me the happiest! ?
Depends on the book/series and my mood
I like series but I sometimes like a single novel. But I have a hard finding single novels that I actually enjoy
depends on the story but i usually just prefer single novels
Either one is good.
I prefer single novel, but I don’t reject the idea of reading series either.
I prefer a stand alone.
Series, but a single is ok too if it’s a good story.
Both ?

Series full of standalones
