I run and practice yoga, but I make time for reading every night in bed. Sometimes a few hours, sometimes just a chapter. It helps me relax and it is easier for me to focus since the day is done and there are no distractions. I also designate some time on Saturdays.
I usually try to run outside and can’t have headphones on while I am running. I get so bored on the treadmill but I can only read when I am on the stationary bike.
@Lydia I run outside too with my son and a jogging stroller. I also don’t put headphones in for safety. I just turn the audiobook on full volume. If you run solo, just put the phone up full blast in your belt or armband. Works well.
Everyday haha. I can’t read while I workout, but I do tell myself that if I work out that day I am allowed to read all night after my workout. AKA I bribe myself lol. No workout, no book.
I read on the treadmill and stationary bike. Audiobooks while lifting weights. When I’m walking in nature I enjoy listening to the birds and whatever so I might not listen to anything.
I just workout. I don’t read while I work out. I guess the closest I’ve ever come is when I used to listen to audiobooks on cassette tapes while walking long distances. The fact that I just said cassette tapes tells you how long ago that was. ?
I work at the YMCA in the fitness center so when it’s slow or when I’m not personal training someone I’ll read a chapter or so since my shift is only 4 hours. but the days I workout I can’t read. I need to focus on my workouts and listen to my music. I’m not much into treadmills or elliptical or bikes to be able to read and I’m not one for audio books.
I don’t use equipment like that either. I do power walks, aerobics and ballet so I wouldn’t be able to hold a book or device and read while doing those things.
I do crossfit 6 hours a week …. difficult to incorporate reading during working out so reading is limited to free time during the day and an hour before I hit the sack at night
Because we’re on the subject and there are all these readers commenting here who work out, I just want to say something. Years ago, I danced ballet professionally (Dance Theatre of Harlem). Ballet was my life until injuries caused me to give it up. Many years and sedentary jobs later, I found myself over weight, out of shape with high blood pressure. Last year, I began working out and cutting carbs. I began eating smaller portions, what I call “European portions” as American food portions are notoriously huge. I stopped eating because I’m bored or stressed and only eat if I’m actually hungry and never in bed at night with a book right before falling asleep. So over the course of a year, ounce by hard won ounce, I’ve managed to lose 70 pounds and my blood pressure has gone from high to a range in the 90 something over 50 something most of the time. Now I’m once again hooked on moving. I had forgotten how good it feels to simply move! The joy of how my body feels doing ballet is back, even though it sometimes hurts. 🙂 Reading and moving are my friends, though not at the same time. I’m 53 years old, will be 54 in October, a mom of one daughter and grandmother of one grandson. Namaste! 🙂
Well I might be bias and I admit this month I totally failed w working out, but I do Zumba and love it. I also love reading too. I believe if u love something, simply making time for it or making it a priority is easy. (It is for me) Additionally, This may not work for everyone but recently I started a thing were atleast one day a week I plan to have a the day off… meaning I am not working and all chores are complete the night before so I have no responsibilities and I can just spend the day doing whatever I feel like… usually lots of reading. I think that really healthy for me.

I listen to an audiobook when I’m running. I’ve never tried downloading an audiobook with the ebook but I believe this can work well – allowing you to switch from one to the other.
I walk dogs for a living ? then read for pretty much the rest of the time ?

I can read and run on the treadmill at the same time. I mute my workout videos and listen to podcasts and audiobooks instead, too.

I read on the elliptical. People always ask me how I do it while at the gym ?
I do this too!
I read on the treadmill and stationary bike. Audiobooks while lifting weights. When I’m walking in nature I enjoy listening to the birds and whatever so I might not listen to anything.
Yep, strength training plus walk 3 miles most week days. I keep reading time and workout time separate.
A combo of weight training, yoga and Zumba most days. Reading is separate.
I listen to audiobooks and run. Tends to work out pretty well for me.
I read on the stationary bike and on the bus on the way to the gym and back. Other than that I read every night in bed.

Kindle helps and audio books
Audiobooks are a lifesaver!

I have to listen to music when I work out & just read when I’m home.
I’ll occasionally listen to audiobooks, but I mostly read before bed.

I work out 7 days a week. When I do workouts with my weights I sometimes read between my sets and when I do my biking I listen to audio books.
I often read while using a stationary bike (doesn’t work work as well on the elliptical trainer, though).
I do crossfit 6 hours a week …. difficult to incorporate reading during working out so reading is limited to free time during the day and an hour before I hit the sack at night

My reward after working out!
Yep and work full time and part time university student but still get my reading in
Swim around lunch- read at bedtime
My usual routine is going to the gym at 6 am before work .This way my entire evenings are free.
I sometimes run on a rebounder in which case I just hold the book and read while jogging or listen to an audio book 🙂

Audiobooks or read while I’m on an indoor bike
4 times a week. Keeps my mind primed for reading.
