I don’t ever really lack motivation to read. It’s not an obligation to read, it’s for enjoyment. I’m my opinion, if you need motivation to read, you’re reading the wrong books for you.
If I don’t enjoy a book, I move on to something else. At times, I may come back and re-read and find I love it. But there’s no need to force yourself through something unless it’s for school.
If it is a good book, I don’t need to be motivated. If I am halfway through and am still struggling I just give up on it. Life is too short! ?As my middle school daughter’s English teacher told the class, “When you start reading a book you are just dating it, you are not married to it. If you don’t love it, go on to another one…there are too many good books out there to waste time on ones you don’t like”
Read only books that speak to you at that moment in time. If you’re not into a book, put it down and move on to the next one. The authors aren’t paying you to read their books. Its ok to say “it wasn’t for me”
So I get what you mean. For me I have anxiety and am just antsy so I set a timer for 15 or 20 minutes when I have time and make myself read that long. As long as it is a book I like I usually end up reading much longer. But will finish the book eventually even if slowly.
If I enjoy it I’ll keep reading, if not then I’ll just quit and start a different book that I think I’ll like more. There’s just to many books out there to waste time on one you don’t get enjoyment out of!
I guess shouldn’t say motivation it more like keeping control of smaller stupid things like keeping a rhythm so i know im reading or something to that effect
I’ve never lacked motivation to read. Don’t force yourself to read books you don’t enjoy. Find the books/genres you like and you’ll not be able to stop reading!
I don’t need particular motivation to keep doing something I love to do? It is hard to make time for it, but if I go too long without it I feel…. I dunno. I miss it. I miss the new experiences from new perspectives.
You just have to read whenever you feel the urge. I found that reading book after book back to back doesn’t work for me. There are times when I have 3-4 months before I start another book and it will take me a couple weeks to read it. Reading isn’t a race, reading is suppose to be pleasurable so do it when you want to, no motivation needed ?
Find a book that sweeps you up and puts you down somewhere further along and you never need to stay motivated you are simply desperate for that experience again – it is an addiction!
It’s so difficult finding a great book. There are so many mediocre books out there. I thought reading a Pulitzer Prize winning novel might be better, but still not interesting.
I agree Jef. So many books out there, and you can’t trust book critics. It’s nice to hear from real people who have read them. Although everyone’s tastes are different.
I’ve read all my life and if there is a period I don’t feel like it then I don’t read, I do it because I enjoy it and love escaping to someone else’s world! If you need the motivation to read maybe you should take a break and do something else for a while and then go back to it, sometimes that helps :D.
Motivation isn’t a problem for me, finding really good books (good writing) is. Have always been an avid reader. I grew up poor with no books in the home, so I read any/everything I could lay my hands on. Now I have a house full of books and my tablet always has books loaded… ?
Reading isn’t my only hobby, (I knit, play music, etc) so when I’m not in the mood to read, I do something else. Then when I get back to reading I enjoy it all the more 🙂
Boredom
My to be read pile! I always push to finish a book so I can get lost in another story
I love to read – the book is my motivation
if the book is good it needs to be finished lol
My book club helps me prioritize reading so I don’t lose that part of myself.
I don’t ever really lack motivation to read. It’s not an obligation to read, it’s for enjoyment. I’m my opinion, if you need motivation to read, you’re reading the wrong books for you.
The same way I stay motivated to breathe – it just happens.
Read interesting stuff.
No motivation needed for me…
I chose books that motivate me to keep going
If it’s a good book I can’t put it down.
Buy more books
I pay full price for books instead of discount lbs
If I don’t enjoy a book, I move on to something else. At times, I may come back and re-read and find I love it. But there’s no need to force yourself through something unless it’s for school.
Its about the book. If I’m invested, I’ll make the time.
If the book is good, you don’t need motivation ?❤️
Wow…..I didn’t realize a lot of us have the same resounding answers, that’s so cool!
My church book club helps a lot. We read one book every six weeks, but meet every week.

I only read books I like. If it hadn’t grabbed me after a few chapters, I start a new book
So I get what you mean. For me I have anxiety and am just antsy so I set a timer for 15 or 20 minutes when I have time and make myself read that long. As long as it is a book I like I usually end up reading much longer. But will finish the book eventually even if slowly.
I have to be motivated to NOT read lol
I take a break from it. Sometimes for life ???
I love to read! I do also read while using the treadmill so that is a bonus.
Teresa, like you, I read anywhere but also on the treadmill. I find, if the book is very absorbing, I walk longer than usually planned.
@Sandy it’s a win-win!
@Teresa ?
I don’t require motivation. To me a life without books is not a happy life. You shouldn’t need motivation for the things you love
If I enjoy it I’ll keep reading, if not then I’ll just quit and start a different book that I think I’ll like more. There’s just to many books out there to waste time on one you don’t get enjoyment out of!
You are not reading the book that is right for you….move on and choose another book
I guess shouldn’t say motivation it more like keeping control of smaller stupid things like keeping a rhythm so i know im reading or something to that effect
Just by reading the books that are good for me.
If you’re not motivated to read, then you just dont have a good book.
I’ve never lacked motivation to read. Don’t force yourself to read books you don’t enjoy. Find the books/genres you like and you’ll not be able to stop reading!
I find books that interest me but also try and take myself out of my box. But I also will put something down if Im just not that into it!
I read books that I don’t want to put down. If I start getting bored, I DNF that book and move along to the next.
Can’t imagine having to get motivated to read!!! I am alive, I read???
My name is Jill and I’m a bookaholic.
I could not go a day without reading. Mainly books, also newspapers..
My motivation is me as I love to read. ?❤?
I couldnt survive without books.
I don’t need motivating lol
I don’t like tv so all I can do at home is look at 4 walls or read
Not feel bad about quitting a book until I find one that is awesome.
If I’m struggling with a book I take it into work and read in my lunch hour.
I try to read a chapter a day and fit it in my crazy schedule.
I set annual reading goals via goodreads. Targets / goals not for everyone but helps me pick up a book when I’m not feeling 100% motivated to read
If you’re struggling to be motivated you have the wrong book. Try another one
Like Nike
Just Do It????????
A book is its own motivation
Every day I find a new recommendation. I can’t stop!
I just make myself pick it back up. Sometimes I get in a funk.
Books keep me happy as I don’t watch tv. If I get unmotivated by a book it is because it sucks for me and I move on
I don’t need motivation to read. It’s second nature to me. I’d be lost without a book or two to read x
@April I would go a step further I am not just lost without a book on the go I am unhappy!
Yes, it’s like I’m friendless x
I love to read. It helps me keep my sanity.
Move on to another book for a while ?
If I’m really struggling then I will choose a book by an author that I know find easy to read and usually compelling
I breathe in, I breathe out, I read ?
It’s a desire.
I dont I love to read
I poop, therefore I read. It’s my only real reading time. Luckily, I’m a fast reader.
I don’t need particular motivation to keep doing something I love to do? It is hard to make time for it, but if I go too long without it I feel…. I dunno. I miss it. I miss the new experiences from new perspectives.
By reading books that are interesting to me, begging to be read, no other motivation is needed
That’s like saying how do you stay motivated to breathe

I’m the same x
??????????☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
Best comment I have heard !
Agreed☺️
I just genuinely enjoy reading. If I find it difficult to want to read a certain book, I know I am reading the wrong book, and find another.
Don’t wait for motivation. I’m an addict.
Keep a good TBR list so there’s always books you’ll be excited about and looking forward to read.
To me it’s like eating – it’s something I can skip a day (ha!) but to me it’s a priority. If it’s not for you then it’s not, why force it?
I can’t get enough of reading.
I read all the time…love it
If I’m struggling I’ll set out a book I’m super excited to read so I have to look at it till I finish the one that’s slowing me down!
Keeps my mind occupied w/ good ideas & thoughts..
If I’m struggling and not motivated to read, I’m just not reading the right book for me. I love reading so much!
I am weird. I need no motivation to read:-)
I read for me and my needs. I have spells when I read less. Then spells when I read more. Finding good books helps.
Eh it’s just a fun hobby I like doing.
I can’t not read. I’d read all day, if I could.
By only reading things that I find a page turner , I love book shops and books , actually I could just sit and smell them ?

@Ariannah what instruments do you play?
Same
Piano, guitar, ukulele, I’m not a professional or anything, but I love the instruments. In the past I played clarinet, too.
@Ariannah very cool!
I usually select books that help me think about a question I’m trying to answer. (Audiobook help too. ?)
I don’t need motivation to read. I DO need motivation to put the book down and do something else instead. Lol!
