Did anyone else find Girl On The Train hard to get into? I’m about halfway through and really struggling with it….

I quite enjoyed it but it’s not the masterpiece I assumed it would be.
I am sorely disappointed after the rave reviews it got!
Hated it. I struggled all the way through because of the rave reviews. But in my opinion it was awful.
Now if I see in a book synopsis stating
“if you loved girl on a train you’ll love this”
I don’t bother with the book at all. x
It just doesn’t make any sense to me at all – I have read books with worse reviews that have been miles better than this!
No not at all.
Didn’t enjoy it that much tbh
I found it dull. It got a bit better towards the end, but still wasn’t great.
Lucky me – not even started this book!
I didn’t like it either. It was hard to get into. Some of those books that say “If you loved The Girl on The Train” were much better then The Girl on The Train. ? I don’t think I’ll be reading the author’s new book.
Same here!
Yes. Not my favourite book. A bit of a slog.
It was an ok read for me. Gave it three stars, I think. I found Rachel irritating and worked out the ending before it came.
Yes didnt enjoy at all…plodded thru it
A bit slow at first but once I got into it I enjoyed it
Hope this happens to me soon!
Yes I did . I gave up halfway through and went to see the film. It made a lot more sense. Would have enjoyed it more if it had been filmed in England x
Hope I enjoy the film better x
A very rare occasion when the film was better than the book. X
I haven’t seen the film but decided to try the book and see what all the fuss is about. I found it an easy to read, enjoyable romp, but definitely not a masterpiece.
It is an easy read I agree, but it’s just not hooking me in 🙁
A friend of mine struggled first time and gave up. However she went back to it recently and ploughed through it. Sometimes it comes down to timing ?
Was not sure at first but stuck with it. I’m glad I did.
I’m hoping this happens to me too
Yes I found it hard, I suppose its because none of the characters are very likeable, exciting end though
Rachel just needs a slap!
Found it a very easy read ….only took me 2 days….
I am getting through it fairly quickly but it’s just not hooking me in
Ur struggling with it coz it’s not very good
Just stop & read a decent book ?
I felt the same with “Gone Girl”, never finished it…thankfully it was a Library book and I didn’t spent money.
I loved that book. Lots of twists and turns. Persevere. It will be worth it.x
I hope so x
I like it .
I enjoyed it..read in 2 days xxx stick with it ?
No, I found it really good and easy to read
Yes I did and was confused but carry on it does finally click ?
I did picked it up & put it down about 3 times before I gave up on it! Jumped about too much, or maybe it’s just me???? xx?
I hate not finishing a book so am going to persevere with it but it just doesn’t seem to make sense. She’s gone from being on the train watching this family to being the centre of the whole thing basically overnight?
That’s pretty much all she does
Travels by train!!!
I’m really confused as to why you would pretend to go to work just to travel past your old house?
Hahahaha
Crap isn’t it lol
Who would use English trains so much ??
It will eventually make sense. X
I gave up tbh ?
ZZzzzzz ZZzzzzz me too Emma ?
No. I loved it. Didn’t like Gone Girl though. Two Marmite books.
Finished it but didnt like it much.
I didn’t quite get what all the hype was about.
Biggest over rated book of the year in my opinion
Agree!
Grossly over rated , don’t struggle bin it !!’
No, I didn’t like it at all!
Agree with Zoe x
I struggled with the book gave up in the end
I hate giving up on books though but I am so tempted 🙁
Yes me too I couldn’t finish it
No I got addicted straight away… Really enjoyed
I finished it but was a bit disappointed with it
It was so hyped up and I’m sorely disappointed!
Yes I couldn’t figure out why it was so popular the first time I read it. All the characters seemed interchangeable but it was a bookclub selection so I reread it and enjoyed it more at the second reading.
I’m struggling with the first time, not sure I want to try again 🙁
Found it light enough to read but not original at all. Shades of Rear Window and Gaslight, for starters. Ending was utterly ludicrous IMHO 🙂
It is easy reading I agree, it just doesn’t seem to be hooking me 🙁
Didn’t read it but the film was actually better than expected. Whereas book AND film of Gone girl terrible I thought. Didn’t bother to finish book as it was obvious what was happening and the film was dreadful.
Me too. Gone girl didn’t do it for me
Hopefully I like the film much better!
I really enjoyed it
I loved it xx
Me too @Margaret x
????
I loved it too!
????
I’m reading it at the moment, up to page 40 and really stuggling with it
Yes I couldn’t get into it. Will try again though.
I was disappointed with it!
Tried to get in to that book a couple of times and gave up
I thought it was only me! :/ Because of all the hype I was expecting it to be a fantastic read but really didn’t get into it at all. Really disappointing 🙁
I agree with @Teresa,indeed a Marmite book.I enjoyed it nevertheless xx
What’s a marmite book ????
I struggled with it and gave up
Yes I found it hard going as well, greatly over rated I think, also the movie
Yes because hands down it was the worst book I ever read in my life
It was so hyped up, I am sorely disappointed
I struggled with it till about 3/4 of the way through, but gets really good after that
I hope so
Enjoyed it
Incredibly slow start, liked it in the end but it was tough going for a while, it nearly joined the pile of bookmarked books I’ll maybe finish one day…or not…
I am debating this too 🙁
I thought the end was too drawn out. Could have been 50 pages shorter. Listened on audio book – on the train! The main character’s whining got on my nerves a bit. Wanted to give her a good shake but suppose that’s good character development
Rachel does my head in. It’s all about her hang up on her ex!
It was ok,far from one of my favourites
It was hyped up so much, I am sorely disappointed
I struggled and did not enjoy it
It is worth it in the end! X
I hope so x
I don’t agree. The ending is nonsense, from a procedural point of view, apart from anything else 🙂 But we all have different, diverse, taste.
Very average.
I started the audio book and found it hard and stopped listening because i was finding it hard. Will be watching the movie in the new year.
never read it as i watched film and the film always disappoints me if iv read book first or vice versa
Yes I agree, Emma , I struggled on for a few pages but have given up on it , whoever gave it a positive write-up needs to visit Specsavers I have spoken to others and they say the same
Well I loved it!!
Just 2 double check which 1 r we on about? The Paula Hawkins 1??? Xxx
Yes x
That ok as loved it but then thought what if other 1 which haven’t read xxx thanks @Emma xxx
I enjoyed it. Much more than Gone Girl. Which I didn’t other finishing. There seemed no point.
I did not like it at all….couldn’t get into it and found it very boring. If as people say, it was good it must have been at the end….lol. !!
The ends was pants! Wrong on so many levels 🙂
I wouldn’t say it was my favourite read, but the storyline intrigued me, and I did finish it. Not one I’d go back to. Sometimes I find it difficult getting into a book, so I leave it and go on to something else. Then I go back to the one I gave up on and find myself hooked. Come to the conclusion that books are a bit like music…depends on what style, or genre you’re mind wants at the time.
I gave up too .. it was boring x
I tried but it been put away for another day. Couldn’t get I to it at all
I did as well I will not be seeing the film
Yes and I don’t know why it’s been at the top of the charts for so long x
I have it on audio cos I was in rehab, I must have heard it about ten times!!! It is like a tranquilizer for me, I listen at night and fall asleep to it!
Didn’t like the main character. It was hard to feel much sympathy with her so that spoilt the enjoyment of the book for me.
Oh no not at all i could not put it down and the film is brilliant ❤
I always thought behind closed doors was a total marmite book but it really seems this is. I agree with one other review that I liked it but felt it was too long! Funny how easily we can all like the same book and then be so split on another!
I enjoyed Gone Girl, The Girl On The Train and Behind Closed Doors. I don’t normally enjoy the ‘popular’ books, but for me they were a little bit different from being police precedural, which although good, floods the market.
Yea lots of books very similar and quite mediocre tbh
I enjoyed it and the movie as well.
I have to recommend Nigel mccrery .. different but brill !! ?
Yes, didn’t really enjoy it
Gave up.
It was a slow start but once it got going couldn’t put it down. Usually don’t go for popular books but can’t wait to see the movie the book was great
The film is much better
Finally finished it :).
The ending was okay but it just seemed to take a long time to get there 🙁 x
You been talking to my ex girlfriend cause ..??!!!!
I liked it
Read it to the end but not my cup of tea !
I thought it was ok, didn’t hate it, didn’t love it xxx
