Brooklyn by Colm Toibin
Thank you for your suggestion. I am going to get the book 😉
A rare occasion where the movie is as good as the book (in my opinion) ?
@Dana I really liked the book, but the movie was perhaps even better! I agree, a rare treasure.
Completely agree. Good book, great movie.
I really enjoyed Paradise Alley by Kevin Baker. It’s historical fiction, but it’s very rich in detail and accuracy. It’s about New York City during the Civil War, specifically the tensions between Irish immigrants and freed black slaves.
Thank you for your suggestion. I think my hubby will be interested in reading this book as well. 😉
Waiting for Snow in Havana.
Thank you for your recommendation. I am intrigued and looking forward to read it.
WHITE CARGO:THE FORGOTTEN HISTORY OF BRITAIN’S WHITE SLAVES IN AMERICA by Don Jordan and Michael Walsh. ???????
Oh mei, I am certain my hubby would grab this book out of my hand before I read the first chapter. Thank you for taking the time to suggest. 😉
Thanks for this recommendation, I just checked and my local university has a copy! And of course I have a library card there. ??????

I love this thread! My da. Was an Irish immigrant
Thank you Maureen Anderson. I honestly didn’t know much about the Irish immigrants until I met a man who told me his grandma was working in the field after coming to the US. Just thinking when those people die their stories die with them. So I started digging in 😉
im fascinated by what their lives were like. My father recited Irish poetry that told some stories “no Irish need apply”. Must have been heartbreaking
@Maureen I came across this and thinking of you. Happy Reading, girl 😉
@Carolin thank you ! Love it ! I hope to go back soon to visit Ireland again
@Maureen I hope you are able to visit again. Ireland is on my bucket list. By the way, I just found out tonight, that my hubby’s godfather was an Irish ;-). Let’s stay in touch 😉
@Carolin sure! Go ahead & friend me. I’d love to see share Irish stuff
