Snow Child, by Eowyn Ivey. Also, an entertaining book to give you the flavor of Alaska bush living, Break Up by Dana Stabenow. “Stabenow was born in Anchorage and raised on a 75-foot fish tender in the Gulf of Alaska. She knew there was a warmer, drier job out there somewhere and found it in writing. Her first crime fiction novel, A Cold Day for Murder, won an Edgar award. Her first thriller, Blindfold Game, hit the New York Times bestseller list.” – From Amazon.
Small Moccasin Tracks by Hilda Luster-Lindner and Chickaloon Wild by Ingrid Shaginoff are 2 Alaskan Memoir books for Territorial Days/early Statehood, creative non-fiction
Fiction: Bristol Bay Summer by Annie Boochever and Second Hand Summer by Dan Walker; Real Life: Life with 40 Dogs by Joseph Robertio, and Dead Reckoning by Dave Atcheson – these books are not only set in Alaska but written by Alaskan authors.
William McCloskey’s books. Highliners is a novel (first in a series) about the commercial fishing industry. I’ll echo others about trying Dana Stabenow’s mysteries, too.
