I find them a very predictable book, they are all very alike, but I still enjoy them, and he’s one of the most thorough researchers I have come across.
@Daniel except when he has got things wrong that are easily checkable. Like including the British magazine Tatler and making it seem like it was a Tabloid rag style newspaper when in fact it’s a high class glossy magazine
I have the same question. His books aren’t literary masterpieces and I am sure that is not his goal either. I personally love the way he mixes history, art, architecture, science everything together.?
I love his books. They may not be classics but I love thst alot of it is real facts about science, religion, art. Think they are great. I’ve just started inferno today actually
I really like them ?♀️ I love Stephen King too and people always talk badly ab him too. Everyone can like what they like. I just can’t stand that elitist attitude of certain books being looked down on.
With that being said, I have done the same thing with twilight and 50 shades. I think everyone is a little guilty of it.
I dont hate him but ive stopped reading his newer books coz theyre all predictable. Everything is squeezed in to happen almost all in one day and the villain…well if you’ve read most his books you know who it’ll turn out to be.
There was a book…. I thought it was written by dan brown but I’m sure I must be close to the right name but not spot on, anyways, it was a bout a kid who had a neighbor and the neighbor was a monster, eating people who he took ice fishing, and the kid found him out and destroyed him. It was such a fun read. Anybody got anything? I do know it’s the not the same guy who wrote the Davinci code
I don’t hate him. I love the stories, he’s a good writer, but the main character in a tweed suit irked me. Come on, man! That’s like putting a super smart female lead with a scrunchie in her hair. You can’t do that!
I love them but they’re kind of predictable to me after I’ve read a few because of his unique style. I wouldn’t hesitate to read them again but with as unpredictable as some things are….others are very predictable. Just not always my thing.
I enjoy his books. Not really sure why some have said his books are predictable. They had The Da Vinci Code all figured out?? I find that hard to believe.
@Liz they mock him in the Netflix series “You”, so I think it is a “thing” to hate on him, but I’ve never read anything by him so I don’t know why people dislike him/his books
@Britt I think that show did that because the main character was a pretentious book snob who hated on a lot of different mainstream authors. From what I remember, Brown was just one of them. I don’t know there is a lot of hate per se, but there are some people who will hate and mock authors that are mainstream. The Fifty shades of grey author is one that has gotten a LOT of hate.
I enjoyed all of the Robert Langdon series (Origin excluded, haven’t read it yet). My favorites were Angels and Demons and Inferno mostly because I read them after returning from a trip to Rome and Florence.
I don’t like his books but it’s all a matter of taste, what one person likes another person might not and that’s a good thing otherwise we would all be robots doing the exact same things in life 😀
I don’t know anything about him except he read the da vinchi code which someone told me was something to do with the bible and that was the end of ever reading it for me
Because sometimes people have different tastes? I am apathetic to Dan Brown, but there are a few authors who I despise for different reasons. Does that mean I judge people who read them? No. Just means I hate their writing and their stories. I have no doubt there are a few favorite authors of mine who others may hate as well. I don’t worry about it and I don’t think you should either. 🙂
I love his creativity, weaving mythology, history, science, and religion into mysteries. I’m not as keen about his writing. I think it lacks polish and seems stilted at times. Still, I’m glad I read his books.
He’s predictable, and when you’re from Europe and know a little about history, his plots are ludicrous, to the point of being insulting, and the twists come from a mix of facts and legends we’ve all known since childhood.
Good concepts and clearly knowledgeable about symbolism and was clever at times, bad a writer. Mixed metaphors and jj abram level ending to every chapter. Felt I was reading a chain of clickbait adverts.
What I mean is that I don’t get a sense of the main characters as real people. With feelings and emotions. I get the feeling that the author uses them like chess pieces to move the story forward. This is just my personal opinion. It would be interesting to hear what others think
I like Dan brown the first one of his I read was the da Vinci code (wrong order I know) and fell in love but I will admit if there is any noise in the background I can’t concentrate on his books Stephen king is the same way for me
His books are really quite poorly researched, which I would normally forgive in fiction but he states at the start of his books that the historical facts mentioned are correct.
I haven’t read anything by him, but I know that college professors in certain fields are really tired of having to debunk him every semester. He could have saved a lot of people a lot of potentially productive class time if he’d gotten some facts straight.
@Melissa or at least not claimed that he was using facts. I don’t mind fiction authors using artistic license, but Brown sells books by claiming all his depictions of organisations, art, historical events etc. are accurate. They’re really not and a lot of the mistakes are basic. Either he’s a terrible researcher or he’s being dishonest.
Melissa Elliott I love his books, my favorite author ever. No one should have to debunk any book by him. They are all fiction. Would you debunk Stevenson, Poe, Doyle, really???
I mean, his books are basically trash and he’s not a great writer, but I love them anyway – it’s like art history pulp fiction with 75368 chase scenes and international conspiracies! Great literature it isn’t, but it’s fun anyway.
I enjoy his books as a guilty pleasure: fun holiday reads… his writing style is pedestrian and his plots have become repetitive – theres a helpful paternal father figure helping you? He’s really the big bad all along!
I love his books! I read da Vinci code first, couldn’t put it down! Movies weren’t great though. And I loved visiting all the sites for real! Have re read his books many times and still enjoy them. Each to their own I guess?
I think it’s a bit uncalled for to say those who don’t enjoy his work are elitist snobs. For me his stories are good but his writing not so much. The world would be a very boring place if everyone liked the same thing. It’s a matter of taste and opinion….like the majority of things in life. Happy reading everyone!
I don’t enjoy his books, but there’s lots of books I haven’t enjoyed. It’s a matter of taste. I’ve been told by people that I don’t challenge myself enough because I don’t read enough classics, and now some of these comments seem to imply I’m an elitist snob because I don’t like Brown. I can’t win ?. I honestly just read what I enjoy and skip what I don’t. It’s less elitist and more that I read as a hobby and have limited time to do it, so I’m not wasting it on something I don’t like.
I find that the more popular or big sellers an author is, the bigger their “hate fan club” is lol. Honestly no one should hate an author for their work. You can dislike reading it, but not everyone will have your exact same tastes. (General ‘You’)
Am I the only person in the world that feels it would be sacrilegious to read? I know, I have heard all the reasons it’s not. It is fiction, after all. But my gut won’t let me do it. Normally I will read anything-I am not easily offended or a prude by any means. But the whole premise, as I understand it, doesn’t sit well with me for some reason.
@Renae The novel is I suppose partly sacrilegious in that it goes against parts of normal church teaching about Jesus. But I will say, overall the book is pretty pro-Jesus, it talks up his deeds and leadership and the example he set. And while the book shows how religion can be used to drive hatred, it also makes a point of showing how faith and prayer can be important and beneficial to most people. I don’t particularly think of the book as anti-Christian, I think of it as presenting an alternate version of Christianity that still respects and often admires Jesus and the vast majority of Christian faithful.
Make of my take what you will though, I don’t personally believe in judging people for what they read so it’s your decision.
@Ellen you just made the best case for reading it that I have ever heard! All I have heard for years has been “who’s to say Jesus didn’t have a wife?” Which I suppose is a valid point, but that logic made me more uneasy than ever. Thank you for your insight! Maybe I will read it one day.
No idea, really enjoy his books. Never knew anyone didn’t like his books?
I don’t like his style of writing, I find it shallow with no depth
I don’t know either. I’ve enjoyed his books. Some more than others but they are good reads
I love him maybe because their beliefs are being targeted by his book
I love his books, I found the Da Vinci Code thought provoking
I also love his books!
I love his books too
I enjoy the stories, but his style of writing is not really my cup of tea.
I think people like to hate what is popular. It seems a lot of the “I didn’t get this book” posts on here are ones that have been wildly popular.
I don’t hate him. I actually enjoyed several of his books!!
Don’t hate him, he’s just become repetitive. I feel the same about Jodi Piccoult, Kristin Hannah, and Nicholas Sparks. Love all their early stuff.
I’ve only read the davinci code & didn’t particularly enjoy it so I never tried another one
@Patty try starting a new post with this question. Someone is bound to know!
I’ve been wanting to try his books for the longest!
I like his books. ??♀️
He’s sold millions, popular authors often split opinions
I don’t hate him. I love the stories, he’s a good writer, but the main character in a tweed suit irked me. Come on, man! That’s like putting a super smart female lead with a scrunchie in her hair. You can’t do that!
I love his books. I’ve read all of them
I love his books
He’s written the same book a dozen times. It only has different characters and locations. ?♂️
I love them but they’re kind of predictable to me after I’ve read a few because of his unique style. I wouldn’t hesitate to read them again but with as unpredictable as some things are….others are very predictable. Just not always my thing.
I don’t like his books because they are so predictable. I honestly don’t get why people like him so much.
I found his writing too simplistic and story lines predictable…
@Altyn the only time he got me was in the lost symbol. And that was only a little.
The intelligentsia are too high handed for this type of popular fiction. I enjoy his books especially “Angels and Demons”.
I enjoy his books. Not really sure why some have said his books are predictable. They had The Da Vinci Code all figured out?? I find that hard to believe.
Live him
Strange statement. What are you basing it on?
@Liz they mock him in the Netflix series “You”, so I think it is a “thing” to hate on him, but I’ve never read anything by him so I don’t know why people dislike him/his books
@Britt I read his first book years ago. It was a page turner, but I’ve moved on. Hate seems a bit harsh.
@Liz not strange. I have also heard this.
I enjoyed all of the Robert Langdon series (Origin excluded, haven’t read it yet). My favorites were Angels and Demons and Inferno mostly because I read them after returning from a trip to Rome and Florence.
@Justin origin has been my favorite so far!
This might explain it…https://theweek.com/articles/730426/dan-brown-bad-writer
@Sheilah I enjoyed that review so much that i might nearly read a Dan Brown book just to see if it’s really that bad
@Orla If you do, you must share your assessment ?
Who cares what other people think. Read what YOU enjoy.
Hate is a strong word. He is an overhyped very average writer
I agree with @Kathy there are always going to be critics out there, don’t let that spoil your enjoyment.
Anyone who makes a lot of money from their writing is subject to this kind of criticism.
I enjyhis books.
I don’t hate him. Except for Angels and Demons, and Digital Fortress, I just don’t like his books.
I don’t!
I don’t like his books but it’s all a matter of taste, what one person likes another person might not and that’s a good thing otherwise we would all be robots doing the exact same things in life 😀
I love his writing. One of my all time favorites is Da Vinci Code.
I don’t, I love all of his books & always get excited when he has a new one out then will devour it until I’ve finished.
I dont
I have no feelings about him personally. Not keen on his books though.
He’s a terrible writer. Ruins a good story
I love Dan brown!
His early books were great – now, not so much.
I don’t. Reading one of his right now, the lost symbol
I liked his books.
Probably the controversial topics. I’ll never forget the uproar when da Vinci code came out
@Jessica I actually saw people protesting outside the theater when the movie came out ?
@Carrie I believe it! You were probably like me thinking “It’s fiction!!”
@Jessica right! I enjoyed both the book and the movie
I love him
I don’t. My older son loves him.
I liked a couple of his books. They can’t all be awesome though lol
I think his brilliant all the books of his I’ve read I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading one at moment x
I like Dan Brown’s novels, however, he uses the same format in each book.
I don’t know anything about him except he read the da vinchi code which someone told me was something to do with the bible and that was the end of ever reading it for me
I like his books !
I loved DaVinci Code and really loved Angels and Demons !
I don’t hate him, but I’m not “moved” by his writing.
I thought his books were very poorly done.
My neighbours name is Dan….everyone hates him. Coincidence? ?
He’s ok.
I think his books are alright. I quite like the fact they go all over the world to different land marks
I liked Da Vinci Code but feel gone steadily down since ?
I love his creativity, weaving mythology, history, science, and religion into mysteries. I’m not as keen about his writing. I think it lacks polish and seems stilted at times. Still, I’m glad I read his books.
He’s predictable, and when you’re from Europe and know a little about history, his plots are ludicrous, to the point of being insulting, and the twists come from a mix of facts and legends we’ve all known since childhood.

Didn’t like his last book. But the others I loved.
I don’t, really enjoyed his books!
I do not hate Dan Brown, I dislike his books..
Because people want a reason to complain.
His characters are two dimensional
When you say this, what do you mean? I’m interested in this concept xx
What I mean is that I don’t get a sense of the main characters as real people. With feelings and emotions. I get the feeling that the author uses them like chess pieces to move the story forward. This is just my personal opinion. It would be interesting to hear what others think
I like Dan brown the first one of his I read was the da Vinci code (wrong order I know) and fell in love but I will admit if there is any noise in the background I can’t concentrate on his books
Stephen king is the same way for me
I liked him
I don’t! His books are always so interesting!!
I don’t, love his books especially Digital Fortress and Deception Point
Donna Davidson love Deception Point.
@Sandy yeah I think Deception Point is one of his best books
Crappy writer?
I enjoy his books ?
I like him. However, I reread Deception Point recently…and though I LOVED it the first time, I wasn’t as happy round 2.
His books are really quite poorly researched, which I would normally forgive in fiction but he states at the start of his books that the historical facts mentioned are correct.
Jealousy
@Michelle, I agree. I love his books.
I don’t believe its jealousy especially from readers. I just dislike his style of writing and have tried over 10 times to read his books.
I’m surprised you don’t like then, Sean. X
I kept trying but I just didnt find them for me. I mean i also didnt like Stephen king either.
Didn’t enjoy his writing style. Found it didnt keep pace well
I personally like his book .
He writes like a 10-year old. Worst dialogue ever.
I like his Robert Langdon series!
I enjoy his books, didn’t know he was hated ??♀️
Me too
I didn’t either-I like his books-great entertainment-I guess we can’t all be loved.
I never read one of his books!
Liked Angels and Demons the best
I haven’t read anything by him, but I know that college professors in certain fields are really tired of having to debunk him every semester. He could have saved a lot of people a lot of potentially productive class time if he’d gotten some facts straight.

They’re really not and a lot of the mistakes are basic. Either he’s a terrible researcher or he’s being dishonest.
@Ellen yep. That about sums it up.
A large amount of his work was plagiarised
Melissa Elliott I love his books, my favorite author ever. No one should have to debunk any book by him. They are all fiction. Would you debunk Stevenson, Poe, Doyle, really???
Charlotte Gates because a lot of students come in believing what he wrote. They think he wrote a story around facts and scholarly ideas.
Who hates him?
Mmm hate is a strong word.
The Da Vinci Code distracted me from my resort in Mexico…. just sayin
Religious folk hate his ideas, because they hate for their folklore to collide with other folklore.
He’s a good writer , some churches just don’t like his writing style
I mean, his books are basically trash and he’s not a great writer, but I love them anyway – it’s like art history pulp fiction with 75368 chase scenes and international conspiracies! Great literature it isn’t, but it’s fun anyway.
He’s writings are boring .
I don’t mind him. It’s Patterson I cant stand
What!!! I have enjoyed all his books and the movies too.
I love them!
Elitism, snobbery ?
i really enjoy Dan Brown
I enjoy his books as a guilty pleasure: fun holiday reads… his writing style is pedestrian and his plots have become repetitive – theres a helpful paternal father figure helping you? He’s really the big bad all along!
I love his books! I read da Vinci code first, couldn’t put it down! Movies weren’t great though. And I loved visiting all the sites for real! Have re read his books many times and still enjoy them. Each to their own I guess?
Well he’s sold over 200 million copies of his books so not everyone hates him ?. The only one I didn’t enjoy as much as the others was Origin

I happen to like Dan Brown. Most people do not like to read the same things.
I find that the more popular or big sellers an author is, the bigger their “hate fan club” is lol. Honestly no one should hate an author for their work. You can dislike reading it, but not everyone will have your exact same tastes. (General ‘You’)
Some can’t handle the truth.
Am I the only person in the world that feels it would be sacrilegious to read? I know, I have heard all the reasons it’s not. It is fiction, after all. But my gut won’t let me do it. Because people are envious of success.
