I buy a lot of used books (often in great condition) from 3rd party sellers on Amazon. (Charity shops, libraries, used bookstores.) Brick and mortar shopping: Third Place Books (Seattle) Elliot Bay Book company (Seattle) Powell’s (Portland) Half price books
Anywhere I can buy them? http://thriftbooks.com/ gets an insane amount of business from me. I also live in NYC and have access to a number of bookstores around the city some of them have books for 50 cents or a dollar, like the strand, housing works, and book off.
Book off is my most recent discovery. I walked out of there following a highly successful raid on their $1 shelves.
Amazon is good. But my fav places are yard sales and used book shops and librarys. I am crazy in love with books written from the nineteen fiftys and before. I love my antique books, I found it doesn’t matter the type it is, I love the way it’s written and end up enjoying the story even if it’s something I wouldn’t have if it was a recently written book
…any used books bookshop… we have one here in Kitchener Ontario Canada called Second Look Books…so much character and great staff… i spend a lot of time there 🙂
In Charleston, WV, USA we have this cute hipster cafe (part art studio, part book shop, part cafe). I tend to go there a lot, but I bring my own book and enjoy the fresh tiramisu and locally made medium roast…I’m just hooked on kindle lol
I like to get mine at yard sales, used books sales, and sometimes donation yard sales.
