Look at some children’s picture books – that will help put you in the mood – they are sweet and bring us back to the joy of Christmas. My favorite is “Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree.” by Robert Barry. It was originally written in 1963. On an adult level “Visions of Sugar Plums” – Janet Evonovich “The Stupidest Angel” – Christopher Moore.
I am very fond of the Christmas chapters in Laura Ingalls Wilder’s Little House books. I love the description of her as a little brown bird with red trip at the Chrismas program and joy of small gifts when Mr Edwards brings Christmas to the little house.
“Christmas Bells” by Jennifer Chiaverini. Historical fiction about Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, his family, the Civil War, and the writing of his famous poem.
The Mouse and His Child by Russell Hoban, Christmas in Noisy Village and The Tomten by Astrid Lindgren, Nine Days to Christmas by Marie Hall Ets, The Christ Child by Maud and Miska Petersham, The Legend of the Poinsettia (and many others) by Tomie De Paola, The House Without a Christmas Tree by Gail Rock, The Gift of the Magi by O. Henry, and In God We Trust, All Others Pay Cash by Jean Shepherd.
I read the Mouse and his Child many years ago. All I remember is that I liked it, and “The last visible dog”. Must admit I didn’t remember it being a Christmas story!
@Nancy, as a child I remember grandmother’s talking about whether it was a good year for pecans and the much ado about fruit cake. The first time I read this book-I was remembering those days.
Read the children’s book, The Christmas Miracle of Jonathon Toomey.
Such a sweet story!
I think I could use a sweet story right now.

Christmas Jars by Jason Wright
A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote.
@Becky Yes I’m reading it now.
If you can find it, there’s a wonderful TV adaptation from the 60’s with Geraldine Page playing the older cousin. Have your box of Kleenex near-by.

Letters to Santa by Tolkien
What!? I had no idea this existed!
@Amanda they’re Tolkien’s letters to his children from Santa and it creates a whole world with epic battles and the like. It’s wonderful
One of my favorites! “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” Barbara Robinson.
This looks like a fun read. Will check it out.
I love a Christmas carol by Charles Dickens
Best Christmas Pageant Ever, it is a year book but really brings home the message of kindness and empathy for the holiday
I really enjoyed “A Newbery Christmas”. It’s a collection of short stories from newbery winning authors.

Susan Michel It is in the sense of starting and ending at Christmastime. It’s main theme is very “Christmas-y” to me!?
@Maryalis same reason I think of Lady and the Tramp as a Christmas movie!
A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote
That’s mine too.
@Nancy, as a child I remember grandmother’s talking about whether it was a good year for pecans and the much ado about fruit cake. The first time I read this book-I was remembering those days.
I’ve re-read that touching story many times, and that beautiful relationship always makes me cry.
F
Die Hard: A Novel
@Tim There’s some heavy debate as to wether this novel is actually considered a ‘Christmas’ novel. ???
Steve Dowens this is true, but somehow it always makes it onto every Christmas list. John McClane can’t be held down, even in novel form lol
@Tim Yippee ki yay, motherfucker.
My husband would fight anyone who claims it’s not a Christmas tail.?
I like his style haha
Stranger in a strange land
Fallen Angel by Don Snyder.
