What are you some of your favorite Christmas themed books that help get you in the spirit?
Don’t hate me BUT christmas season for me officially starts in two days ?. What are you some of your favorite Christmas themed books that help get you in the spirit?? Christmas Carol and Skipping Christmas are two of mine but I need more!
I enjoyed Christmas with the Kranks. The book and the movie.
That’s what skipping christmas is I think the book title may have been different originally! 🙂 Looks like we have the same taste!
Love Skipping Christmas!
I’ve already read two Christmas books and just checked out three more from the library yesterday ❤️?❤️?
which ones?!
debbie macomber novels, they’re super cheesy romance novels and I’m addicted ?? I did dashing through the snow and Alaskan holiday
I was just telling my husband that I get to start watching my cheesy hallmark Christmas movies as of Thursday. Also glad you asked this as I have been wanting to find Christmas books.
@Erica there is nothing better than cheesy hallmark Christmas movies. I’m obnoxiously excited.
@Mandy me too!
YES! I’m getting a hulu live account just for the christmas season
@Annemor what is the one on top, above Planet Christmas?
@Laura
thank you!
Watched Home Alone last night. I’ve never considered reading Christmas books, but my three-year-old checks out Christmas books year-round. It’s like she has Christmas book radar and can find them on the shelves instantly! I might need to start this new tradition!
What a great radar!
Debbie Macomber has some and a few have been made in to Hallmark movies. I think Twelve Days of Christmas is my favorite.
Are they part of a series?
@Erica Twelve Days is stand alone book. Some of the Angels Everywhere series are Christmas but I haven’t read them all.
Great! Thank you!
Anne Perry has wonderful Christmas mysteries. Usually involve one of the minor characters in her other books. Very fun.
Oh I love mysteries! I didn’t even think of that
Can’t say I’ve read any Christmas books except for Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, although I always liked the Christmas scenes from Little Women. In our family, Elf and George C. Scott’s A Christmas Carol are traditions – as is Christmas Story.
Oh mine too! The Christmas story book is great (not the same as the movie but also good)
This Year It Will Be Different by Maeve Benchey. Short stories
Krampus
I agree, as soon as Halloween is over! Our town has Christmas open house the first Sunday after Halloween! ?
YES!
I love Kate Jacobs’s Friday Night Knitting Club Series. Because knitting and delicious baked goods signals fall and winter to me.
oh agreed
The Autobiography of Santa Claus and its partner books are good ones. Kind of a Forest Gump of Christmas stories.
I think I read that a few years ago! I will have to give it another go this year!
@Kaylei It is the first of a trilogy.
After 2 years of not being able to check it out during the season. I got a hold of this series earlier this month and I absolutely loved it and highly recommended. I recommend you read them all together. I am glad I did not read them as they came out, anticipation would have had me on medication.
haha I will add them to the list
I’ve read A Christmas Carol every year for over 20 years. It’s one of my favorite Christmas traditions. Fred’s speech in the counting house reminds me to keep my heart open and to be grateful.
I love it too, it makes me cry!
Debbie macomber ‘s Christmas Angels series. Older books but great!
Had to give the angry react. ? I don’t hate you, but I am judging you LOL!! Mashed potato holiday comes first!! ?
All in good fun, of course. But if you’re not in the states, then I guess Christmas would come next.
haha I take the judgement. I am in the states but I consider Thanksgiving a practice Christmas. We game-plan the christmas season while practicing eating the Christmas dinner and waiting for Santa to make his first appearance in the parade! ?
@Kaylei oh my god, you just made me laugh out loud!! ?
I don’t decorate before Thanksgiving but I do watch Christmas movies before. Nothing wrong with that in my book
This is the first book in a series I aim to start this year. I think the second book in the series is A Very French Christmas. It celebrates the best Christmas stories from that culture.
This sounds really interesting, can’t wait to check it out!
Oh I love the idea of hearing about other countries celebrating!
♥️♥️♥️ ? ??
The Stupidest Angel by Christopher Moore.
( and the day after Thanksgiving is when it starts!)
@Susan yessss. I’ll sit over here by you.
haha you guys sit together but next to me has lights 😉
And I’ve got pumpkin candles sooo I win.
And WE’VE got a fruit bat wearing sunglasses!
?? pumpkin candles have been burning since August. I don’t just jump the gun on Christmas.?
Little Women always gets me in the spirit, even though it’s not a true Christmas read . Nov 1 is when I start the Christmas music. Love this time of year!
oh I never thought of that one. I will add it to the list
@Kaylei it’s just such a cozy book to me ?
Winter Solstice, by Rosamunde Pilcher. I read it every year!
Oh, I have that so that will be next!
Following for book club ideas in December. ?
Augusten Burroughs wrote one about Christmas but I can’t remember the name. I loved it though!
@Nikki was it “You better not cry”?
@Trish yes!! Fun and lighthearted and heartwarming.
I recently read Catching Christmas by Terri Blackstock.
The dog who thought he was santa read its a cute book
Sorry but I’m worst than the Grinch and Scrooge together, I hate Christmas. It is the season with higher suicide rates and that means something. I rather enjoy my family time everyday than go and spend a bunch of money to buy overpriced things and way too much food for one night. The everyday thing is what really matters.
Edit: and yeah, I don’t have any good books to get in the mood for the season. ???
Sad, but true. I pretty much have a difficult time through Christmas… lots if reasons…including those you mentioned. It isn’t the best time if the year for many. ?
@Cathy yeah. I’m a very melancholic person and it’s hard for me as well. I must say I really loved christmas as a child, but not anymore. It requires a little bit of extra strength and energy to go through it, good thing is just once a year!
well what a positive light to bring to this discussion. haha
@Kaylei realistic though.
But why comment if you don’t have a book suggestion?
Well alrighty then. I hope you have a very merry Christmas season.
Oh gosh
My answer was on Christmas as well, I don’t recall saying anything about any other holiday
Haha Christmas clearly ignites passion on both sides of the fence. I had no idea. ? BUT the world needs both the grinch and Cindy Lou Who. ?
The real christmas spirit some people on the page have is once more proof of my first post in which I mention buying and consuming. Nothing about sharing, loving, respecting others, and being merry. Thank you @Kaylei because you actually show a real Christmas spirit with all your answers.
If it wasn’t because of people like Kaylei Ward the grinch’s heart would had never grown three sizes on Christmas day!!
@Nerea i suggest the Stupidest Angel. It will make you laugh. The hero is a fruit bat.
@Christina that sound super cute!! I’ll check it out thank you ❤
@Nerea it makes me feel better about Christmas.☺
I need to go!!!
A Christmas Memory by Truman Capote
So good!
If you have kids in your life, get Here Comes Santa Cat & The Christmas Quiet Book by @Deborah! (There’s a whole series of Cat ones, including Valentine’s & Easter….)

The Autobiography of Santa Claus by Jeff Guin and Saint Nicholas.
A Christmas Story
I don’t think that’s a book.
@Susan it is! I have read it ?
But I think it’s got a different title – “In God we Trust, all others pay cash”.
I’m sure it’s like David Sedaris that it’s in different books of short stories and also has its own individual book. ?
@Kaylei i see. I bet it was put out individually after the movie.
Holidays on Ice by David Sedaris
Omg I hated this book ?
Love it & everything else by him.
This book made me laugh till I cried.
@Kira well okay then.
@Kristin ??♀️ thought it was shitty and unfunny. Sorry if you took offense.
@Kaylei you should! It was so much fun!
Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich. great!!
@Rudette such a funny book!
@Krysta yes and she blows up a car. It wouldn’t be the same without that ?
Haven’t read it yet, just released, but Half Spent Was the Night by Ami McKay. It’s a Christmas follow up to one of her books I absolutely adored
We haven’t even had Halloween yet!!! Stop talking about Christmas!!!
Richard Paul Evans – The Christmas Box and he writes a lot of Christmas themed books
The Stupidest Angel.
That was my suggestion earlier! IKEA!
How the Grinch Stole Christmas
A Christmas memory by Truman Capote
Richard Paul Evans wrote a bunch.
Letters from Father Christmas by J R R Tolkien. Read it years ago and it is my favorite.
Skipping Christmas is the best.
You woukd love Jacob T. Marley by William Bennett. I also consign the Tolkien suggestion.
Tony Bertauski has written four or five fantasy books that take place in a Christmas, North Pole World. They are pretty good.
Following because I love Christmas too!
Heidi Swain Sleigh Rides and Silver Bells at The Christmas Fair.
