I was actually tired of the YA genre by the time I stumbled upon the Maze Runner series but I heard it’s not like the others (i.e. Hunger Games, Divergent, Vampire Diaries, or Twilight) so I gave it chance. I did not regret it! It’s good 🙂
@Fallon the story. I can’t say much without ruining it. I can just tell you that while reading it I was beyond furious. That emotion was so great and it didn’t diminish. In fact it grew. The kids were places in death camps. Kids!!
@Fallon do it!! I change my mind. If a book can get me this mad then it was good. The older I get the more I relate to the adults in a book and I didn’t like these adults. But the kids were awesome.
@Fallon you mean the kind of friend that’s bipolar about books?! ? Because just in this thread I went back and forth so many times. Lol. I’m crazy about books. If you like it, read it. If you don’t, stop and read something else. Life is too short to read something you don’t like.
If we lived close to each other we could meet at a bookstore and walk around talking about books!! That’s all I need, good company that likes books. #FriendshipGoals
@Fay I completely agree with you, the movies were not good. I thought the first one was okay, but the second strayed even further from the story. It was really upsetting.
WICKED IS GOOD! So as this book!!! (The Maze Runner, The Scorch Trials, The Death Cure, The Kill Order, The Fever Code). I love it! It’s a page turner and lots of unexpected endings!!! The chapters are short so it’s an easy read. The FEVER CODE & THE KILL ORDER makes me sad. I love JAMES DASHNER! Also try his THE MORTALITY DOCTRINE series.
EDIT: Wow I’m sorry. I didn’t realise how long this would be until I pressed send.
I read the first three before all the hype, having seen them in an online library and thought the blurb sounded interesting. (I haven’t read the prequel/4th book.)
I was surprised when they became that popular, because while I thoroughly enjoyed them, I didn’t think they were the best I’d ever read.
The plot was original and intriguing enough to keep me reading. I didn’t like them enough to want to buy a physical copy (even though I have physical copies of almost every book I’ve read), but they weren’t the worst; I’d reread them again if I could get them for a cheap price.
The writing style was simple and it wasn’t a difficult read; I felt it could have been written in a more complex manner, but that’s just a personal preference.
The ending (without spoilers) was frustrating. There’s no real cliff hanger per se, so it’s alright in that aspect; it was just overall a ‘sad’ ending that left an awful taste in my mouth. (I think it was MEANT to, though.) It seemed the kind of ending that was meant to give the reader food for thought rather than provide a satisfactory reading experience (yes, it’s one of THOSE books) so if you’re not into that sort of thing, I would suggest not reading it, because it could be very frustrating. (I was really frustrated the first read through, but I like these ‘food-for-thought’ stuff so I got over it rather quickly.)
Again, I didn’t think it was THAT great and worthy of a movie or anything; I have read other less popular books that I favour much more than The Maze Runner trilogy. Overall, though, it’s a fun read and I would recommend it as something that provokes and disturbs the reader into thinking about (very, very minor spoiler about themes) politics, Good vs. Evil, and The Greater Good™.
(It blurs the line of black and white, while simultaneously clarifying what is black and what is white. It’s hard to explain.)
It’s one of the few cases where I actually liked the movie more than the book, and precisely because it changed a lot of things (I’ve only seen the first one so far). I read the whole series and felt mostly “ugh” and “meh” the whole time. Won’t be rereading, probably will watch the other movies.
The books are WAY better than the movies. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT watch the movies! Even my son (who was about 13ish at the time) was moaning at the cimemas about how wrong they had gotten the movie!
Yes agreed ? i actually watched the first movie before the book but my son had read the book first and wanted to see the movie. At the time i couldnt understand why he hated it. Then i read the book and i understood! We both then read 2nd book and was even more dissapointed with the second movie! But yeah they chose some great actors ?
The first movie was ok for me. The 2nd movie is the worst, they changed the plotline and I pictured Brendan as a Bad girl, but her cast has a soft features☹ and the ending of it NEVER HAPPENED IN THE BOOK?
I like the movies as their own series — sorta like if they were “loosely based off the concept of The Maze Runner”. I don’t like them calling the movie the same title and then botching it up so badly. XD
I was SO SUPER angry when I saw the first movie though, with the whole Teresa/Thomas thing. (I won’t say what cos spoilers, but I’m sure if you’ve read the books you know what I mean.)
It was such a vital role in Book 2, and Book 3, that I knew they would botch up movie 2 the moment they left it out of movie 1. ?
If you re-watch the movie like 800 times and you think about the theories then when Thomas is dreaming it’s kinda like that absent part of the movie. But it’s a stretch. There are other things that are a lot similar in the movie than you think when you first see it. Try comparing the little details that helped me like the movie more
@Melanie – yeah thats what ticked us off the most – it was SUCH a pivotal part of the story. Without it the story didn’t completely make sense! And yeah i agree about the movies as their own “loosley bassed” etc.
Yep thats exactly what happened with my son and i! I had to keep telling him to be quiet during the movie coz he kept yelling out things like “this movie is crap!” And “thats not how its supposed to happen!”. I was so embarrassed! Thankfully there weren’t many in the cinema!!
Gsjsbehfsjsbsj IS THIS EVEN A QUESTION?! I had the first one when it came out and while I waited for the scorch trials I re-read the maze runner 93 times! I got the fever code the minute it was available and oh my gosh it’s just such a great series and you get so attached to the characters and then there are plot twists like crazy!!!…… so…I’d say it’s a good series yes
Sooo…..I liked them enough. But I didn’t love them. I did like that the ending of the series wasn’t wrapped in a “happy ever after” pretty package. It has a good story, but I felt someone else may have written it better. They are super easy to read though, so if you are curious enough to be asking, I’d say go for it. It really doesn’t take long to get through and it will satisfy you curiosity. It does get you thinking a bit about the some hypothetical situations and political moves, and I would say that’s another good reason to read it.
TLDR: Not the best series, but easy to get through and gets you thinking about what’s ethically right and what’s necessary. I’d give it a go.
I loved it! I couldn’t put it down.
I liked it!
Read the sequel in order to understand the world in The Maze Runner 😉 You’ll like it. ☺☺
What is the name of the sequel? 🙂
I never knew there was one
The Kill Order, but I’m not sure if it is a sequel :))) i think is a prequel
Oh okay, thanks! ☺
You’re welcome ☺☺
1. The maze runner
2. The scorch trial
3. The death cure
.05. The kill order
.1. The fever code
It’s the sequence
Thanks!
You’re welcome.?
I enjoyed the series… Wasn’t too bad
I didn’t like it at all. It grabs you, but I found it to be lacking some more connections and depth
I was actually tired of the YA genre by the time I stumbled upon the Maze Runner series but I heard it’s not like the others (i.e. Hunger Games, Divergent, Vampire Diaries, or Twilight) so I gave it chance. I did not regret it! It’s good 🙂
Very good.
Could not hang. Tried it but the writing was just very juvenile. YA can be done with excellent quality. I don’t think Maze Runner is one of those.
I haven’t read it myself, but my friend speaks very highly of it.
I couldn’t get into it. I found the writing extremely simple and with too many thinks unconnected to engage me.
Noh
I loved it. The movies not so much but the books were good.
Read the first 3. Hated it more and more each day
It was a quick easy read. Something fun for a beach/vacation or after you read a really intense book and need something lighter.
I’m interested in knowing what you consider intense. This book is making me lose sleep and hair!
@Kelli haha I was more along the lines of something like the nightingale (historical fiction) or murder mystery.
i literally hated it
I loved it!!
The first book: Yes. The rest of the series: No.
It should have been a stand alone.
It’s just wow. You won’t put it down.
I couldn’t get into it, but my husband loved it and he is not much of a reader…
I liked it a lot. I’ve read hunger games, divergent and other dystopian series and this is the one that I would recommend
I have them but not read them as of yet but they sound pretty good x
I like it a lot.
Yes! I loved ot
It^
OMG YESSS!!! I’m on book four. I stay up reading all night
Meh.
I’m with her. ^^^ 😉
I loved it!!
I liked it❤?
Loved it <3 Minho <3
Nooooo!! Don’t do it! I read the first one and regret it so much. I was angry 90% of the time. Without spoiling it, the adults in theses books suck.
Is it the plot that was bad, badly written or it wasn’t what you expected?
@Fallon the story. I can’t say much without ruining it. I can just tell you that while reading it I was beyond furious. That emotion was so great and it didn’t diminish. In fact it grew. The kids were places in death camps. Kids!!
So much useless death by stupid adults.
@Fallon it was actually very well written. Full of action and great scenes.
I love your responses! I think I’m going to give it try!
@Fallon do it!! I change my mind. If a book can get me this mad then it was good. The older I get the more I relate to the adults in a book and I didn’t like these adults. But the kids were awesome.
Haha! I wish I knew you in person! You seem like my type of friend!! Once the power gets restored, I’m definitely going to open the first book!
@Hilda, yes absolutely!!! My life is so back and forth that people really don’t get me!
That sounds great to me!!
@Fallon you just need to find your people. And look, here we are!
I liked the first, second was ok, haven’t read further
I read the trilogy and enjoyed it.
Liked the first.. the second not that much.. to much description of action..less story.
Love it so much!!! Please try it out??
I couldn’t finish it. Watch the movies
The movies are great. The books angered me too much.
Saaame. The writing was too juvenile and the characters did stupid things
@Claire I hated the made up curse words!! The adults were the worst. And honestly the main characters got on my last nerve.
It was like a weird soap opera. So over the top dramatic.
Hate the movies. Its so different from the books☹
@Fay I completely agree with you, the movies were not good. I thought the first one was okay, but the second strayed even further from the story. It was really upsetting.
@Hope i know. The 2nd movie is really dissapointing. I keep telling “that didn’t happen in the book”
@Fay I’m glad they didn’t try to make a third one, because that would have been a disaster and completely unrelated to the books
They’re making the third one. Its coming out next year
Seriously?! Did the second one even do that well??? Ugh
The first book was great (the chapters are short so you keep thinking just one more…) but each book after that was progressively worse
I only read the first one and didn’t like it at all
WICKED IS GOOD!
I thought the first book was okay, but it was pretty much downhill from there for me, especially the prequel.
EDIT: Wow I’m sorry. I didn’t realise how long this would be until I pressed send.

The first book was amazing. The sequels left much to be desired.
They were overhyped for me personally. The first book was alright but I did not enjoy the last two
I think it’s a good series in general but not my thing
Is the series finished?
I believe so. There a 3 main books as well as 2 prequels.
What are the prequels called? Thanks
The first one is The Kill Order, and the second is The Fever Code.
OMG YES
Book 1 is good.
Book 2 is… meh.
Didn’t bother with book 3.
It’s one of the few cases where I actually liked the movie more than the book, and precisely because it changed a lot of things (I’ve only seen the first one so far). I read the whole series and felt mostly “ugh” and “meh” the whole time. Won’t be rereading, probably will watch the other movies.
Yep… ?? a must read ❤
http://vy.tc/drHCS81
I thought the first 2 were great but when I started reading the third I was like.. again? Hated the movies tho
Planning to read them soon. I have the whole series plus the prequel, im not sure if i should read that first or what!
Yess ?
I really liked the first book, thought the second was awful & that put me off trying to get started on the 3rd book.
The books are WAY better than the movies. Do yourself a favour and DO NOT watch the movies! Even my son (who was about 13ish at the time) was moaning at the cimemas about how wrong they had gotten the movie!
Hate the Movies! But love the cast of the movie. Hahaha. Thomas Sangster ?
Yes agreed ? i actually watched the first movie before the book but my son had read the book first and wanted to see the movie. At the time i couldnt understand why he hated it. Then i read the book and i understood! We both then read 2nd book and was even more dissapointed with the second movie! But yeah they chose some great actors ?

Ikr!!
I hate it when they completely change the story! Or who said what etc!
I like the movies as their own series — sorta like if they were “loosely based off the concept of The Maze Runner”. I don’t like them calling the movie the same title and then botching it up so badly. XD

Shannon Seaman
I guess? But they didn’t put it in the second movie, though, and they changed the entire ending part.
I just decided to look at the movies as an “inspired by” rather than “based off”.
@Melanie – yeah thats what ticked us off the most – it was SUCH a pivotal part of the story. Without it the story didn’t completely make sense! And yeah i agree about the movies as their own “loosley bassed” etc.
@Donna I saw the movie with my mum (I’d read the books, she hadn’t) and I came out of the cinema FUMING!
Yep thats exactly what happened with my son and i! I had to keep telling him to be quiet during the movie coz he kept yelling out things like “this movie is crap!” And “thats not how its supposed to happen!”. I was so embarrassed! Thankfully there weren’t many in the cinema!!
Hahaha!
I kept muttering to my mum “that’s not how it happened! But Teresa and Thomas [spoiler stuff]! And they [more spoilers]! BUT THEYRE NOT HERE! What?”
Yep! And of course i had NO idea what my son was talking about! But now of course i do and i can totally understand the frustration!
Haha! It was the worst book to movie. XD
Yes
YAS
My students love it!
Gsjsbehfsjsbsj IS THIS EVEN A QUESTION?! I had the first one when it came out and while I waited for the scorch trials I re-read the maze runner 93 times! Good, but one time for me. I gave mine away
If you’re into scifi, it is a good book! (Overall)
Sooo…..I liked them enough. But I didn’t love them. I did like that the ending of the series wasn’t wrapped in a “happy ever after” pretty package.
It has a good story, but I felt someone else may have written it better.

SUPER !!!!!!!!!! GO FOR IT ❤❤❤
I enjoyed it very much. The way of writing of James Dashner makes the story entertaining and worth to read. I really recommend it
I didn’t really like it, too much thriller/horror, that’s my go-to series when I have nothing else to read (I’m halfway the second book)
