I read this short story called “fawn” last year. It really gave me insight into some of the issues young LGBT people have to deal with. The imagery was also really vivid and beautiful. I keep recommending it to people because it sticks in my head so much.
More Happy Than Not, History is all You Left Me and Theu Both Die at the End by Adam Silvera. The Art of Being Normal by Lisa Williamson, If I Was Your Girl by Meredith Russo, Simon vs the Homosapian’s Agenda, The Upside Of Unrequited and Leah on the Offbeat by Becky Albertalli
I wouldn’t classify it as an LGBT book because it is so much more than that, but Proust’s Remembrance of Things Past has several homosexual characters and a discussion of the psychology. Proust himself was homosexual, but in the main story line he has transformed his experience into a heterosexual one, which raises the question of how real it is. Somehow all the pages devoted to Albertine seem contrived and unreal.
I fell in love with A Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue this past year. It was refreshing to have a character who was a narcissistic, pig-headed, arrogant rich brat who happened to be gay. Having that as a facet of his character was lovely and real. And it made me really love the book.
And it’s sequel
I just read Openly straight and loved it. Also liked Simon vs the homosapien agenda.
