I had read a recommendation of Birdman before. But I have read two of Mo Hayder’s books,Ritual and Poppet, and they were ok. Just did not impress me enough to seek out her other novels.
that one I never read, but I saw the movie. I’ve read ketchum’s Offspring and Red. He wrote one book, not sure of the title,Hide and Seek??That was scary, too, now that you’ve reminded me of ketchum.
The movie was pretty horrifying as well. True stories scare me a lot more than fiction because they show what real people are capable of. That, in itself, of terrifying.
Thanks for reminding me of Dan Simmons. I must remember to buy Song of Kali if I happen upon it. Have you read his story,”Dying in Bangkok”–combining AIDS,vampirism and homosexuality? Great and scary.
The Amityville Horror, The Shining, and Jaws.
you’re right about amityville,i remember being scared.though i only have the faintest memory of it now:something about a pig,and blood..
This book gave me serious heebie jeebies
Bird Box creeped me out pretty bad.
I have read Heart-shaped Box but not Bird Box. Will google it.
Books don’t generally scare me, but The Shining is definitely one that really made me double check my surroundings. Such a great book.
Red Dragon scared the shit out of me when I was in high school!
The Rats by James Herbert
The Woman in Black – Susan Hill
Naomi’s Room – Jonathan Aycliffe
Birdman – Mo Hyder

Birdman & The Treatment are both better than her later novels.
Hmm
Shining and Misery
Haven’t found a book that scares me…yet!
It, The Twins and parts of misery.
The Twins?
Its a really graphic thriller
Bird box was the only one I could say remotely made me feel anywhere near creeped out or scared
I must read that.
I thought it was over-hyped & the ending was crap…:/
The Exorcist, The Stand, It. (King’s short stories- short and not so sweet)
Misery
Rosemary’s Baby. I read back in the early 1970’s.
Pet Semetary, The Exorcist, The Stand
Bless the child. I could not even finish it.
who is the author of that
@Carlo Cathy Cash Spellman
The Girl Next Door by Jack Ketchum. Based on a true story.

The Shining, Amityville, are the only ones that have scared me. Song of Kali gave me some good shivers.

Robert Bloch the author of Psycho has some creepy books.

The Exorcist
I’ve read “HS” numerous times & it stlill scares me!
Cell by Stephen King is the only book that has ever scared me
Art of the deal
The Shinning. And Rose Red. And It
NOS4A2, Brother, and Soultaker (which I didn’t finish, could stomach the necrophilia)
The only book that’s ever scared me and I couldn’t finish it was.. The Exorcist!
“The Silence of the Lambs”, “The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich”, and “It”
The Bible, the Koran, and the Book of Mormon. The scariness comes when people take them literally or seriously.
Two are “Harvest Home” & “The Other” both by Thomas Tryon. The third, “Ghost Story” by Peter Staub.
Bag of Bones by Stephen King.
