@Michele I enjoyed it but I found it was more about how he met his wife than actually tying to survive in the camp

I just finished and really loved it!
But it’s also my favorite genre (WWII stories) and I listened to the audio, which may have made it better than the print version…?

I’m so conflicted!!! I feel like SOOO many people loved it but yet they are a handful that don’t! I am going to give it a go and hope the best! I love WWII books!
It’s a decent book and worth the read, it’s just wayyyyy overrated. It doesn’t even come close to comparing to other books in this genre in my opinion.

No didn’t love it. I think I was expecting it to be more like The Nightingale which I LOVED or Night I wasn’t expecting a love story
Yes! I agree with you but can’t exactly put my finger on why I didn’t love it
The writing style was terrible!!!!! And I thought flippant
That’s exactly it. The story was wonderful but it was written more like a Mills & Boon romance which actually detracted from the horrors of the situation they were in. Plus there were a lot of inaccuracies which the author should have researched to make it seem more authentic.

The approach to the subject matter was very clinical and cold. How you’re able to do that with the Holocaust is beyond me.
There are many ways that you can describe the holocaust. Clinical and cold , I didn’t get that. I went through many emotions i this book . Desperately sad. Sometimes a bit happy. Disgusted. Torn, broken , hopeful , intrigued, but never clinical and cold. I think lale told it honestly and beautifully

I didn’t like too, it felt a bit unoriginal rehashing the same tropes I’ve seen a million times.

I just finished it, it was a good story but I found it a bit flat, maybe it was my frame of mind this past week.
It amazes me how there’s a handful of people that loved the book and the other half didn’t like it. I’m getting the book next month and I wonder what my reaction will be.

Yes agree it was a book you could put down – fairly interesting although nothing we haven’t heard before – and for some reason the characters didn’t enter my soul unlike Nightingale and The Villa ??
I enjoyed it. It is so hard to recommend a book, we all have such different tastes. Some would look at structure and fluidity and others just want to read the story. Some understand the big words, others don’t and some analyze whether that word was used in the correct manner. I think it is always great to hear that people enjoy a book but it really does come down to personal tastes. I’d never get put off a book just because someone didn’t like it. They might enjoy darling buds of may and find IT but Stephen King horrific – it doesn’t mean he is a terrible writer or that he did anything wrong. The tattooist of Aushwitz I found was a compelling read.

It did not live up to my expectations and did not do justice to everything that happened during the Holocaust
All I can say is at least people you may not have read Holocaust books before are now realising what went on
It’s interesting to see everyone’s opinions.. I have been in a reading slump and haven’t read for quite a while. I picked this book up due to all the controversy and read it in a day.. It’s very easy to read (writing style wise)

I enjoyed the book though I think that some people might not enjoy the writing style of the author, but more to the point it is so important that she was able to relay the true story of the events that actually happened to this man that lived through Auschwitz and survived to tell the tale, before he died of old age
I really didn’t like it. As much as it was a lovely love story, it was not a realistic depiction of the holocaust. It was almost like the author sugar coated the truth of what actually happened in the camps.

Our book club just read Sarahs Key. It was a Book Club Kit meaning it was at the library and we received 15 copies and by far was my favorite book since we have met.
I loved it more so as it was true and loved the 2 main characters xx

Still on the list for it at the library, but have heard a few negative thoughts about it.
I found it interesting to read it from someone who is not jewish abd so it is missing some of the essence, depth of feeling but there are a couple of things that are totally haunting about it and it was informative. Now wen i play bridge in israel and i see the old ladies and gentlemen with the numbers tatooed o their arms i wonder if it was done by him
If you’ve bought it read it but just expect too much….you might think it’s fabulous
i found it a very good read – anything autobiographical about the holocaust is sometimes hard to take but this was palatable and it a good story worth being shared about humanity in the face of evil
