It’s a powerful and moving story. I wasn’t personally convinced by the writing style which is a bit basic but perhaps that helped make a very difficult story more bearable to read.
I loved it. And I liked the way it was minimally written. Enough info to give you the picture but not too much so you wouldn’t want to read it. Very touching read. Xx
The story itself is brilliant, the writing style wasn’t great . I think it was originally written as a script, which shows. It’s well worth the read though.
Fantastic book, helped by the fact that it is based on a real person. Didn’t dwell on the atrocities but explored the feelings of the central characters.
Loved it! My boyfriend only reads non fiction and loves reading about war etc so I told him to give it a chance and he’s mad about it too!! Definitely worth it!!
@Ellie I have started it and stopped. It reads very autobiographically. There is a very long section on him being stationed in the desert. Hope you like it – I found it quite slow.
Currently reading it and getting frustrated that I don’t have enough time to finish it in one sitting ?? if you have an interest in WW2 then you’ll enjoy it, it’s tough going at parts!
If you find books like this intriguing I also Read inside the gas chambers by Shlomo Venezia which was about a man who spent 8 months in the sonderkommando of auschwitz. Another incredible read.
I’ve read that too. Was good. I’ve read quite a few first person accounts and been to the museum in Berlin under the blocks. Harrowing first accounts there x
I liked it
Brilliant book.
I loved it! Quite heavy but so, so worth it ❤️
Loving it
A friend is getting me a signed copy as I can’t make the book signing ?
Mines on my kindle or I would loan it. Xx

@Catherine I agree. I was horrified to find out it was true. He deserved so much more skill in the telling.
I felt like this too! I didn’t feel as emotional as I really should have. I think the fact it was originally written as a screenplay may be the issue.
I definitely found the writing style difficult. It took the emotion out of the story for me.
Great book
Loved it x
Awesome!

I want to read The Man who broke into Auschwitz thanks to someone on here for recommending it.
@Ellie I have started it and stopped. It reads very autobiographically. There is a very long section on him being stationed in the desert. Hope you like it – I found it quite slow.

The Book Thief is in my all time Top 3. (Please don’t ask me what the others are, it varies and anyway 3 is not enough!)
