Those who read multiple books at once, how do you do that?? I always mess up the stories whenever I try, even if the books are of different genre. ☹️

I always mess up the stories whenever I try, even if the books are of different genre. ☹️
Ugh, me too.
@Jenn I guess they’re mutants ??
Perhaps it just depends on what sort of personality you are – in my day job I’m working on all sorts of different things at once, and therefore, it’s natural to me to have different threads of different stories not get entangled. I know other people prefer to have one task that they can stick to. For me, different mediums help as well – audiobook for one story, ebook for another, physical for another; just as an example. But, it doesn’t really matter, IMO, if it doesn’t work for you, don’t do it! Do what works for you 🙂
I constantly am in the middle of 5 or 6 books at once. It comes naturally to me and I keep them all straight just fine. People ask me how I do it. Honestly, I am not sure. But I enjoy jumping from book to book or mixing it up.
@Megan I see people like you as superheroes. ?? I wish I could do it too.
@Abinash I don’t know about superhero, but it works for me. Try with two books and see if you can keep the stories straight. Then expand from there. Sometimes having books of separate genres can help.
One physical book
One ebook
One manga
One local pocketbook
As long as they are in different language/format I can tell them apart. XD
@Nayda Yeah reading comics and reading a physical book helps though.
One audio book
One non fiction book
One fiction book
I make sure no characters have the same names
I just read books that are different. I usually have an audiobook going for when I’m in the car or at the gym, 1 or 2 nonfiction books about very different things, and then fiction books in between (usually 1 on my kindle and 1 physical one that I switch between depending on my mood).
I’m a natural multi-tasker though so I think that really helps! I also sometimes forget one that I’ve started though and don’t realize it until I see a bookmark in it ?♀️ so it’s not perfect haha
When I read two books at the same time (which is not super often actually) I make sure I choose books that are very different (for genre, plot, etc) and also in different format (so for example one traditional book and one audiobook or one traditional and one ebook). It somehow helps me to keep the two experiences completely apart
I always have several books on the go, but I never read more than one novel at a time. The other books are a mix of nonfiction, essays and short stories.
@Myrthe Yeah. I found that helpful. Short stories and novels tend to keep distance from each other in my head.?
Exactly. Somehow those ‘worlds’, characters and writing styles don’t get tangled, but when I read two novels, they do.
I usually read around 4-6 books at a time. And it’s like everyone is saying here. Different genres, different formats and for different times of the day/activities (e.g. commuting, in bed, exercising etc). I also always have one light read (something funny or just very easy) and one heavier read.
I usually read one non-fiction, one fiction, that definitely helps with not getting lost! Also like other people have said, having a mix of eBook and physical book does help too
I developed multitasking superpowers when my children were born… ?
Right? Same! I could never do more than one book before. Now I’m so used to listening to both kids talk at the same time & understanding both. LOL Now I can juggle multiple books.
Uni trained me to do it. But I read in different places for each book and used completely different bookmarks
I can read 3-5 and somehow compartmentalize them all. I don’t know how
It is nuts, I don’t know why I do it. It makes me anxious. I’m reading 4 right now.
One or two chapters of each book, then on to the next in the pile, and so forth. Kreps Keeps me from being bored. Reading 4 hardcovers, 1 ebook at present.
Different types of books. Physical and audio books. Physical books have to be different genres. Currently reading a non-fiction book about religion and a fiction psychological thriller.
It has only been recently that i have realised I can do this! I listen to one audio book, read one or two physical books (different genres) and I normally have one on my Kindle as well ?
I can’t read multiple books at once, at most I have read two books simultaneously and that also I tend to forget about one or the other so forever jealous of the people who can read several books together and not mess up haha…also hi Bong here 🙂
?? Same. I start multiple books and end up finishing only one and DNFing the others.
start out with two and read them at different times of day. i have a bus book and a waiting room book and a night time book. that way u get used to differnciating between the storylines
@Sofie The only time I get to read books is before I sleep at night. It’s my final year in high school. ☹️
