The movie is one of my top favorites EVER. It’s my happy movie no matter how mad I am at the world I can watch it and smile. But the book was beyond amazing. I had actually seen the movie several times, so many that I could actually quote it before I ever read the book. And yet the book answer questions I never knew I had but I also found a few inconsistencies in the books as far as character descriptions and such that weren’t the same so I’m still hung up on them when I rewatch the movie. Haha. But it definitely doesn’t change how I feel about the story in general. Both are definitely worth your time, though.
Thanks. I’ve seen the movie a few times and love it, so I wasn’t sure whether to get the book because I’ve seen people say they didn’t like it so much.
The book is great, and it’s obvious why it was chosen but there’s an intrinsic heart that the movie has. And it’s all on the performers: The love between Fred Savage and Peter Falk. Cary Elwes smarm, Robin Wright’s tarnished gold persona, the three kidnappers, the villains, and let’s not forget Billy Crystal and Carol Kane improvisation.
The book is a single, talented, author writing many characters and a wonderful story.
But like Andre the Giant, you don’t appreciate how amazing the characters truly are until you see them in front of you in living color.
Movie > book, however the book is still fantastic and worth the read. It’s hilarious and gives a lot more background to the characters however it’s long winded and can be VERY slow at times.
I loved the book and the movie equally for different reasons. But I can tell you why others complained about the book. The book doesn’t have the grandfather/grandson thing. Instead it had a father sharing a story with his son, but not realizing that the version the father had been told was edited. There is a lot of set up before it really gets to the actual story. I know that frustrated several people I loaned it to.
I love the movie. It still makes me smile to this day. It means a lot to me. So much so I really wanted the book to do the same. But I hated the book!! I don’t know why I just could not get into it!!
I didn’t much care for the book as a whole, but…the first chapter is one of my favorite chapters from any book. I view it as a short story and have read it many times. Maybe I should give the rest a second chance, but I just remember not enjoying it towards the end.
My hubby thought it was a girly movie and hadn’t watched it. I finally got him to sit through it with me and now he watches it every time it comes on TV
Both. The movie is one of my favorites
Movie. The book is quite long.

@Joshua oh yeah I remember this movie. But sad to say I wasn’t able to watch it. Not sure why though. I must be very busy back then.
The movie looks better than the book.
I absolutely loved the movie.
I hope they will play this movie on HBO.
Thanks everyone. I’ve heard people say they didn’t like the book so much.
Smells good too.
Never read the book but definitely my top ten movie.
Both!

Movie!!! One of the few where I thought the characters were more likeable in the movie.
They’re actually very similar
Both
Now there’s another book I hated so much I’d throw it in the trash if it belonged to me.
I loved them both
Absolutely both BUT book first!
Both. One of the few movies I love as much as the book.
I feel like I am the only woman on earth who has not watched the Princess Bride.. I started it and five minutes in turned it off ?
My hubby thought it was a girly movie and hadn’t watched it. I finally got him to sit through it with me and now he watches it every time it comes on TV
Both! I saw the movie first.
I actually preferred the movie.
