I started it a few weeks ago but gave up on it. I plan to try again at some point. I just found it difficult to read and the concepts were a bit over my head.
I have tried twice and couldn’t keep going. Now have it on audio and that seems to be helping me get through, but really not engaging with it at all. Tough read for me. Language feels pretentious, many side discussions on things that as yet seem off topic, and finding it hard as yet to really invest in any of the characters. Just under half way through so maybe it will pick up but am not very hopeful.
I’m feeling the same. Not as far as you, but it isn’t calling to me to be read. I feel almost guilty to not like it much yet, but I will try a bit more today and see…
I will keep you posted as to how I go too Karen. I hate not finishing it so am determined to see it through, third time lucky and all that. Good luck, I hope you find a connection to it.
I really connected to it and still find myself thinking about it. I would probably put it in my top 50 books of all time, as it checked a lot of boxes as far as my own personal reasons for reading. Really lovely use of language, quirky but not annoying characters, and a sense of forward movement.
I just finished The Elegance of the Hedgehog. Didn’t like it at all when I started. Kept going, even though I struggled with the main character’s passages. Then….I got it. And I read on to the end. And didn’t want it to stop. It was a challenge, but it was worth the effort. I’ll think about this book for a long time.
@Carol it’s an ongoing battle because I don’t want to read the book six months ahead. I forget and don’t want to reread. They like to have the schedule for a whole year.
@Renee aahhh.. we pick a month or 2 ahead. This month: Fall of Marigolds (Just ok); next month: Erotic Stories for Punjabi Widows; oct was Educated (excellent!).
@Carol I thought the same about Fall of Marigolds, seemed like a lot of coincidences. I usually trust good reviews, figure so many people can’t be wrong. Was disappointed in the Extraordinary Life of Sam Hell, but I wasn’t sorry I read it.
I personally loved it. I know many that didn’t like it though. I thought it was beautiful.
Tried many times.
And?
Could never make it through.
Absolutely yes!
I loved it.
Definately yay ?
One of my all time favorites

Just finished it! Loved it. Amazing language! I decided to read it because I just couldn’t imagine how they’d fit that title into a story. 🙂
Same!
I loved it.
Yay.

Very much yay! But don’t get deterred. It’s a slow start, but completely worth it.

It was my favorite book of 2017. I recommended it to a lot of people.
Wish I hadn’t bothered.
My sister loved it. I DNF. When you start rooting against children, it’s time to step away from the pages.
Nay for me.
I loved it.
Ended up liking it, though it took over half the book.
I liked it, but I can’t say I remember it very well. I donated it to the laundry book swap last summer. So that might say something?

It’s okay… why are hedgehogs so popular? I don’t know if we have them around here.
They’re cute. And I don’t believe they are anywhere this side of the pond. Lots in the UK.
Oh,I absolutely loved ❤️ it!And also the movie!
The movie! Right. Noted.
Hope that you like it,Brishti!
Oh yes! I hugged the book when I got to the end. YAY!

YAY!
I recommended to my book club and they didn’t like it, but I did.
@Renee I’m always a bit anxious when I suggest books to my book club; mostly they’ve liked but a couple of times….
@Carol it’s an ongoing battle because I don’t want to read the book six months ahead. I forget and don’t want to reread. They like to have the schedule for a whole year.

@Renee yes, usually a lot of coincidences don’t bother me… I just flow along with them but… Marigold has even too many for me!
Was not for me!
Nay
