For me there are 2. The Reader, which actually enhanced the book for me. I had picked up the book at the thrift store probably 15+ years ago, and thought I was only person on planet that had read.

Strangers when we meet, same as above. Some random purchase, really interesting old book, and stumbled across it on some old AMC tv channel.

And lastly, Cold Mountain. Movie stayed true. Loved the characters. And, was such an epic book, there was no way to capture it truly without it being a mini series. (Side Note: I binged on corn during entire read!)

I loved Zorba the Greek movie. Didn’t know it was a book! ?

@Suzanne I recommend you read it. More philosophy in it over the mind-body struggle played out in the movie’s two leads.

“Lust, Caution” written by Eileen Chang and directed by Ang Lee. Sorry there is no book translation; originally written in Mandarin Chinese. It is a short spy story. Ang Lee invented the leading female character’s personal history to explain her behavior. It gives the story psychological depth that the book lack.

I also found Ang Lee’s movie “Broke Back Mountain” is better than the book.

Hunger Games was close. Only thing that got me was in the first book, Katniss gets her mockingjay pin from the mayor’s daughter. This symbolizes that many in the government did not support the Games, which we see later in the book/series. In the movie, she gets the pin from one of the women at the market. It became a different symbol. This always bothered me, but I do still really like the first HG movie.

I thought they did a pretty good job with The Hunger Games. Some parts missed the mark a little but the casting was spot on for me.

Outlander is pretty close to the books but occasionally I get disappointed with the show when they cut some of the good scenes.
