I do audio about 90% of the time. As a writer I spend a lot of time in front of my computer sitting. I just couldn’t sit more to read, but I was missing some great books. It was then that I discovered audiobooks and fell in love.
I’ve tried them, but I think I’m just impatient. I want to just read it myself because I read quickly in my head and I know if I just read it myself I would get through it in like half the time it would take me to listen to the audio book.?
I have 4, all from my favorite author, Sandra Owens, who has become like a long distance friend. She now gives me an audio and signed paperback with each new release. They really come in handy when I can’t sleep. Or I’m so sick I can’t concentrate on a book. I even took my iPod to the hospital with me, and listened to one of my audios in there. But sometimes I also listen to them, while walking the dog. Or doing housework.
I love them, I’ve been able to read so much this year with very little time because of them. I use an app through my library called Overdrive and I borrow them for free. If not, I’d never be able to afford this habit. ??
Absolutely love them it’s mainly what I listen to during the day while I get all my work done I read a paper back when I have the free time to sit in quiet and read and read my Kindle at night so I don’t have to use a pack light and I’ve got thousands of audible books
Not fair on the authors and publishers who spend money producing these. It costs money to produce and the authors deserve a wage for their time and effort in writing in the first place
@Kim I’m not saying that’s the only place I get books. Just saying it works in a pinch. And if they’re pirated how come they’re not removed by YouTube like pirated shows are?
I usually am looking for a certain one in which case I do a search for the book title and author with the word “audiobook” at the end. Otherwise, just search audiobooks and see what comes up
Definitely not youtube! I think most of those are pirated or shared without permission of the author/creation team. Getting from a library or buying them makes sure rhe creators get paid. Which makes sure audio books keeo getting made
whenever you have an option for free delivery, don’t choose the two day, or next day, opt for regular delivery, you will have credit applied to your account, and they do add up, I currently have six credits, each credit is good for the purchase of one audiobook, and I save them for the expensive audiobooks, I don’t waste my credits on the ones I can get for under ten bucks or so. but that is a personal choice.
From the library or http://audible.com/ I pay 16/mo and get one free book a month. I used it to buy the Harry Potter books that are over 30 each. Once I get to 7 I’ll cancel the membership.
I just got into them recently and I’m HOOKED! I listen in the car, while I get ready for work, while I’m cooking and cleaning… I started with audible then switched to playster
I NEED them for long road trips. I usually get mine from audible. The downside is that they can have unexpected consequences. For instance, when I go on months long solo trips and I don’t mix it up, it might become a repeat of the time I binged The Dresden Files for 6 weeks straight and felt like Harry and I were bffs forever. It was heartbreaking when it came to an end.
Audible, I’ve been with them since they started. I also get audio books from the library, downloads these days, I no longer have a CD player anywhere. Now, I can sit down with my crochet, Tell Alexa to put on my book and get lost in crochet chains and stories!
@Margaret they remain in the library, or you can download to tour phone/tablet/ iPad to read/listen to offline. If you do away with the app, I don’t know, because I’ve always kept it…comparatively, it’s the same as 4 months of audible if you pay for the whole year. You can try for 2 months, if you don’t like it you close the account and it’s never charged to you
With Audible, I pay $10 a month, I get a free credit every month, which is worth a free book and I get nice discounts. And the audio books are mine forever.
@Leslie I have used audible also, and it’s good for a book, with scribd you get unlimited books and audio books. I’m not knocking audible, just comparing, and it’s MUCH cheaper
I get a free book every month and over half off or more for anything I purchase. I didnt care for Scribd, they didn’t have a great selection. IMHO. YMMV
@Leslie we each choose what works for us, I’d rather pay $48 a year for unlimited books/audiobooks then $120 a year for 12 and then a few 1/2 off after that, that’s what works for me
@Rebecca I understand. The biggest difference is that Scribd is no different than the library, as the books are only on loan. Whereas Audible, I pay more because I own them. I’m ok with that.
Understandable, I drive ALOT for work, so I can usually listen to about 2 books a week, and I’ve never listened to the same book twice, so for me, more is better. But I could listen to them again, they stay in the library. I guess unless I cancel, but I’ve always had it, and have no intention of canceling
I love them when I drive, but it does depend on the narrator to some degree. I used to have a subscription to audible, but I was having computer compatibility issues and let it drop. I’ve bought many on CD and going back a while on tape. And yes, at library sales.
I used to hate them with such a passion. Now a year later, I love them. I cannot wait to lay down in the dark and get taken away into a different world without the red eye in the morning lol I use libby by overdrive, its free. You just need your library card, which you can apply for through the app 🙂
I love audio books. Especially with my migraines and sometimes reading isnt possible.. i usually get books on cd from the library and trying the apps from the library
I really enjoy audiobooks they make reading so much fun And I can really understand the book while I’m reading with the audiobook I get my audiobooks from audible
Oh, wow! I have a new audiobook, “Sex and the Cyborg Goddess,” by Alexis Rafael – I would love for you to let me know what you think of it! It’s read by Linda Fitak, whom the great director Francois Truffaut used to have read to him for hours, as he liked her voice. Will you look for it on audible and let me know? Thank you!
I like them for mindless tasks like folding laundry. Start with your local library and test drive a few. I found I can listen to authors I do not have the patience to read. ?
I love audio books while walking back from office, which takes around 40-45 min for me. Few of them like Matilda, Tell the Wolves I’m Home and All the Light We Cannot See were great on audio. I’m not contesting the fun of reading though!! 😉
I listened to them all the time on my iPod at my last job. I found some free online and also I converted them from YouTube too. The library has audio books too on cd!
I don’ listen very often, but my other half will put one in in the car sometimes
I love them. I get them mostly from my library. I had an audible account but I didn’t get through them fast enough so I cancelled it.
Oh I didnt think of the library. Thanks my adhd hasn’t been great with reading lately.
@Tara – I use the Libby app so I can just get them on my phone. I know at my library I could also get the discs to listen to, too.
Thanks I will look into that
Not a fan of those. I use to listen to some on Youtube. It’s easier to read because you’re listening to your voice
Google Play as well
I audio books on Audible. I love listening to them in the car.
Library for me. Just download the app and they are all there. It’s awesome.
I like listening to them. I get mine through my public library!
I like them for long drives. Get them from the library.
library
Thanks all for your help 🙂
I love them! listen on my way to work, cleaning the house, and going for walks.
I use overdrive, hoopla, and libby for apps
I don’t listen very often. But I would like to. ???
I love them for those times when i’m driving or doing marathon cooking and and can’t hold a book.
I do audio about 90% of the time. As a writer I spend a lot of time in front of my computer sitting. I just couldn’t sit more to read, but I was missing some great books. It was then that I discovered audiobooks and fell in love.
I love them! I listen to one in car and getting ready in the morning. I read a paper book at night. So I always have 2 books going.
I listen on my way to work, at work, doing chores and cooking ? love them!
(I get mine on Audible)
I’ve tried them, but I think I’m just impatient. I want to just read it myself because I read quickly in my head and I know if I just read it myself I would get through it in like half the time it would take me to listen to the audio book.?
I usually adjust the speed to as high as it can go where I’m still able to understand it.
@Emily that’s a good idea!
@Kimberly sometimes they read so slow I’ll have the speed at 1.8 and still can understand just fine.
@Emily I do that too
I listen to audiobooks everyday.
i have sight issue and the audio book from http://audible.com/ is top of the line, sometimes they have free books, two for one, etc
I listen to them mainly for classics but I listen to others to. I use kindle unlimited mostly
constantly listening to them – audible is the best way for new ones, libravox and openculture have millions of free old books
I use amazon audible. Love it as I can get through a lot more books listening when I am driving to work
I like to listen on long trips in the car.
Audible. I listen to them at work, in thw car, just about everywhere i go
I have 4, all from my favorite author, Sandra Owens, who has become like a long distance friend. She now gives me an audio and signed paperback with each new release. They really come in handy when I can’t sleep. Or I’m so sick I can’t concentrate on a book. I even took my iPod to the hospital with me, and listened to one of my audios in there.

I love them I use http://audiobook.com/
I love them. YouTube has a bunch
I have just put my first ever sortie onto audio , THE VIOLIN MAN’S LEGACY… quite strange after 10 years of eBooking them 🙂
Love them! I get them through my library with the OverDrive or Libby apps.
Absolutely love them it’s mainly what I listen to during the day while I get all my work done I read a paper back when I have the free time to sit in quiet and read and read my Kindle at night so I don’t have to use a pack light and I’ve got thousands of audible books
YouTube audiobooks are usually pirated copies.
But if you’re broke w/no transportation to the library sometimes desperate times call for desperate measures
They can be reported as pirates to YouTube if people find them and report them. And I think YouTube would take them down.
@Kim Only one way to find out
Don’t like em. Never got used to em.
@Tona, how do you find them on you
I usually am looking for a certain one in which case I do a search for the book title and author with the word “audiobook” at the end. Otherwise, just search audiobooks and see what comes up
@Tona , thank you.
Not a very big fan!
Love them. I use overdrive and audible
Overdrive and audible
I love audiobooks. A whole different experience.
I love them. I get them through overdrive, which gets them through my local library.
I love them.listening to one now
Love em, it’s how I do most of my reading
Love them. Great for driving or at work when I’m doing tedious things I don’t need to think about.
I love them but they are expensive
Has anyone used Hoopla, I get it Canada through the library as well as overdrive.
Love! ❤️ Overdrive & audible
download from youtube
Definitely not youtube! I think most of those are pirated or shared without permission of the author/creation team. Getting from a library or buying them makes sure rhe creators get paid. Which makes sure audio books keeo getting made
I’m getting them from the library through libby 🙂
Libby is wonderful! I much prefer it to the standard overdrive app!
If your library doesn’t have a particular audiobook you can recommend that they get it, I’ve done that a couple times and they have gotten
Brilliant – Audible subscription
There is Christian Audio that works the same way as audible.
Audible and check out free from the local library on Overdrive! Book a day! Listen while you work…
I enjoy them but I feel it doesn’t allow much for the reader to imagine or explore on their own.
I love them, as I am an amazon prime member I receive credits on my purchases, so I get my audiobooks when I have enough credits to get it free.
I’m a prime member and didn’t know about this feature.
whenever you have an option for free delivery, don’t choose the two day, or next day, opt for regular delivery, you will have credit applied to your account, and they do add up, I currently have six credits, each credit is good for the purchase of one audiobook, and I save them for the expensive audiobooks, I don’t waste my credits on the ones I can get for under ten bucks or so. but that is a personal choice.
I am in Canada, wonder if that’s why I can’t find that feature
@Rose I did not know this! Thanks for posting.
@Margaret, you should inquire, it’s definitely worth it
Love them. Overdrive
Librivox and YouTube is what I use.
From the library or http://audible.com/ I pay 16/mo and get one free book a month. I used it to buy the Harry Potter books that are over 30 each. Once I get to 7 I’ll cancel the membership.
They are my fav! I get them from Audible:)
I just got into them recently and I’m HOOKED! I listen in the car, while I get ready for work, while I’m cooking and cleaning… I started with audible then switched to playster

I like them. The library is my go to for them.
Audible, I’ve been with them since they started. I also get audio books from the library, downloads these days, I no longer have a CD player anywhere. Now, I can sit down with my crochet, Tell Alexa to put on my book and get lost in crochet chains and stories!
Ok
Scribd is much cheaper than audible…7.99 a month or 47.99 a year and unlimitied books and audiobooks. Audible charges by book.
Check out Scribd – the membership for readers! Use my link to sign up and you’ll get 60 days free: https://www.scribd.com/gatx/55km8k
Do you actually own the audiobook?
@Margaret they remain in the library, or you can download to tour phone/tablet/ iPad to read/listen to offline. @Rebecca Yea I might just do that, thanks

Except, the library is free ?

Thanks so much for the 60 days trial link. I am very impressed with selection. Have already downloaded 3 books.
@Margaret good for you! I think there are alot of options, I can always find something.
?
Libby (over drive) or audible
If you like romance books, audible has an unlimited romance plan.
My husband loves them. We find them at library sales
Like them. Overdrive from the library
Love them. Helps with getting gym time and house cleaning done. I get most from my local library apps and I buy some on my audible account.
I love them when I drive, but it does depend on the narrator to some degree. I used to have a subscription to audible, but I was having computer compatibility issues and let it drop. I’ve bought many on CD and going back a while on tape. And yes, at library sales.
??
I have an hour commute to work 1 way. So I LOVE THEM. I use Overdrive through my library to get them.
Try mobile9
I have no use for them. I like regular books.
I really like audible. When you buy the book its yours. I’m not a fan of renting
Love them. Overdrive and hoopla
I used to struggle with them, but now I enjoy them a lot, especially when I’m working out.
I used to hate them with such a passion. Now a year later, I love them. I cannot wait to lay down in the dark and get taken away into a different world without the red eye in the morning lol
I use libby by overdrive, its free. You just need your library card, which you can apply for through the app 🙂
Love them. I download from my library on the overdrive app.
Used to listen to Harry Potter audiobooks while I was doing yardwork.
I love them. I have 1600+ of them. I buy them from audible when they have a sale. ?
The only audio books I’ve listened to have been A Wrinkle In Time read by L’Engle her self, and Eragon. Both I thought were pretty ok
Love them!! I get them through my library app called libby
I love audio books. Especially with my migraines and sometimes reading isnt possible.. i usually get books on cd from the library and trying the apps from the library
Overdrive
Love them! I listen on the way to and from work.
I would rather read the book, but my husband prefers audio books. I am a visual learner, and he is an audio learner.
I love reading. I could read 30+ books a month in high school but now the adhd and work is kicking my butt.
I use Audible. I LOVE them… I drive a LOT, so it’s the perfect time to listen to books. My favorite are those read by celebrities. 🙂
Thank you!
I looooooovveeeeee audio books. You can finish the whole book in a day.
http://overdrive.com/ its free book or audio book
I have fhe audible feature on my oasis and listen to my audible books through that.
Love them. Overdrive
Have a hard time enjoying the story or feeling immersed in it if I’m listening instead of reading.
I love them. I use hoopla and overdrive
I commute 40 minutes so Hoopla has been my friend 🙂
Half Price Books usually has some!
I listened to them all the time on my iPod at my last job. I found some free online and also I converted them from YouTube too. The library has audio books too on cd!
Borrow from the Library. Over the years I’ve listened to hundreds of them. Always while driving.
I can’t, but it’s my attention span not the books.
Nope, I need to see the word.
I enjoy audio books while working around the house and walking.
