Mary Dia. This book is by Madeline Miller and she has written a wondrously lyrical story of Achilles. Her turns of phrase are perfect for her retelling the story of his life, his relationship with Patroclus, and of the Trojan War. I listened to this book on Audibles, wonderful narrator. I listened to several chapters a second time for the beauty of hearing the Miller’s exquisite language. Also bought book in paperback.
I teach Greek Mythology and World Mythology. We use Heroes, Gods, and Monsters as a basic book on the major Stories. Bullfinch’s can be hard to read and follow in the formal manner it’s written. You find it used more on a college level. Mists of Avalon is Arthurian legend.. not Greek or Roman.
Must have been an elementary version. It’s originally written at a very hard college level in the 1800’s by Thomas Bullfinch. It’s Edith Hamilton who then did a rework of it that’s as hard! .
House of Names by Colm Toibin. It’s excellent. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HMXRXSO/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&btkr=1
Maybe too light…myths Mists of Avalon. .
Here are a few that I usually recommend:
C.S. Lewis Space Trilogy in many ways read like fantasy adventures combined with themes of biblical history and classical mythology.
Out of the Silent Planet little more heavy on the typical sci-fi genre, and a quick read.
Song of Achilles
