Is she a ‘young’ or more streetwise teen? I love the idea of a classic maybe 1984 if she is gadget inclined, or a modern classic like Maize Runner or Holes if she’s not read them yet.
Harry Potter books Anything by Sarah Dessin if she likes girly YA Stephen King “The Eyes of the Dragon” is a great one if she likes fantasy and already had Harry Potter
Depends on which Genre she likes. Cinder, The Lunar Chronicles is a meld if genres, fractured fairytales with Science Fiction and Dystopian . She will Love the spin of all the fairytales, such as Cinderella, Snow White. And Little Res Riding Hood among others.
i think it’s super nice that our bookloving friends to to buy books as gifts but we can’t just buy some one a gift because it’s something WE like. Gifts are meant to be something the receiver would like
When I was that age there was a series my sister and I were both obsessed with. The first one was called sloppy first. It talks about sex so if it’s a conservative family I wouldn’t recommend it but it was really relatable to me at that age.
@Amanda i bought my now 36 year old niece this for her 15th birthday to be informed that Victorian mothers banned their daughters from reading it, as it was considered risqué
Yes it is. Since you like it, you might want to try Akata witch and Akata warrior. You may just thank me later, that is if you haven’t read them before.
Love Comes Softly by Janette Oke & Redeeming Love by Francine River. My daughter always wanted books that would challenge her reading level so larger books didn’t intimidate her. Of these two, Redeeming Love is for a 15 year old if at an advanced reading level.
for light quick reads, Being Nikki (Airhead series) by Meg Cabot (of Princess Diaries fame) or.. Heather Wells Mysteries also by Cabot, (Size 12 is not fat, Size 14 is not fat either, Big Boned, Size 12 and ready to rock) cute series of former rock princess whose dad stole all her money, now she has to go find a real job to pay the bills. As a Residence Hall advisor for a local college, she starts to solve mysteries there. (I thought it was Tiffany, but Meg Cabot said, It was supposed to be Jessica Simpson). cute.
@Suzanne yes some, but then I find when a story is something that they themselves have experience with, it is just as interesting as more sophisticated stories. It isn’t written for babies. Most of the feedback I’ve been getting is from adults who are reading it. It may be light reading for a sophisticated young person, but it’s not juvenile.
The Anne of Green Gables series; The Children of the Earth Series; The Wrinkle in Time series; the Weetzie Bat books; Witch of Blackbird Pond; any of Mary Roach’s non-fiction; any of Sarah Vowell’s histories; any book by Sarah Waters…
Crush It, Deep Work, The Compound Effect. Just google these names of books and decide for urself. Those are some of the books I would have loved to have in my teens. And of course The Bhagavat Gita, if u r into that.
I think A Wrinkle In Time is good at any age. For teens and up: Matched series by Ally Condie, Fallen series by Lauren Kate, The Woves of Mercy Falls series (Shiver is #1) by Maggie Stiefvater.
@Agnes its a Bible, but it’s broken down to make it more understandable and relevant in today’s world. It has sections for notes, it has inspirational quotes, etc. They are really a great thing for anyone to have, but they make them specifically for kids, specifically for teen boys or teen girls, etc.. for every walk of life. Newly married, new parents, empty nesters.. wherever you are, at whatever stage, there is a study bible to help you understand how the Bible is relevant to your situation. Sorry this comment is so wordy, it’s just hard to explain without it. Lol!! Here is an example ?

Hry. She’s 15 not 5.
@Garry it’s a story about a kid in JHS that gets bullied. Don’t let the cover fool you.. 🙂
Have to agree with Garry here. Although this might be a great book, research has shown that teens tend to read at or over their age levels, not below.
@Suzanne yes some, but then I find when a story is something that they themselves have experience with, it is just as interesting as more sophisticated stories. It isn’t written for babies.
