Im just upset that Harry didn’t die. I thought it was a cop-out. And the epic, end-all fight felt rushed. I was disappointed. I’m not gonna say that I hate the book, just wanted a little more out of it
I want to say the last Dark Tower book. I literally threw my book across the room. But…I also understand why it ended the way it did. And, to be fair, he does warn you to stop before that ending. Not that it’s possible to listen, but still.
I would like a better ending to IT, though. That’s one of my favorite books that I’ve read several times and that ending kills me every time.
Ready Player One. I’d tell Cline that the controller dude of the net being into the 80’s is really… dumb. The 80’s sucked. Your book sucks now too. I want to finish it. 70’s or 90’s?
@Pamela She wrote it first, but her style evolved in the years to actually publishing it. Parts of it were okay, but her alleged refusal to edit it makes it seem like she was trying to force the happy ending feelings.
@Pamela the historical notes are part of the book. they are the ending. so it doesn’t really make sense unless you read them. and it’s also up to your interpretation. those are the best kinds of endings: open ended because the story doesn’t end there.
What The Fuck Did I Just Read by: David Wong, wouldn’t mind if he went ahead and rewrote the whole book while he was at it. But the ending in particular was a stinker. It’s one thing when you ruin a book it’s another thing when you ruin a whole series, especially when the first book was so good.
@Pamela l read for pleasure and lm glad you have never read a book where you thought “well that sucks” after reading it. The ending of a book sometimes brings down your whole reading pleasure of it.
In 2007 Karen Slaughter released Beyond Reach. Oh how I would have loved a different ending. Seeing as this books ending hasn’t left my thoughts when asked this question I’d say she was brilliant.
The Truth Factory by Cody McFadyen ? It was a terrible book, I used to be a giant fan and when the wait was over I was super happy to keep on reading about Smoky Barrett but the book (not only the ending) was sooo bad ?
Sorry, but I dont get why so many of these are “sad” or “disappointing”….. I would HATE all books to have “perfect happy” ending?! Right? For example… compare Raymond Carver’s stories “THE BATH”, and the extended rewrite “A SMALL GOOD THING” …I much prefer the short “dark” original!
I’ve not gotten to the end but I’ve been told I’m going to be mad at @Lily for the ending of Day of Execution (Paranormal Detectives Book Seven). We shall see…
Daughter of smoke and bone
but it has a sequel
@Džejn yeah I just didn’t like the ending of the first one
The end of the Divergent series.
Cell by Stephen King, the only ending he wrote that truly maddened me ??
Horrible book. I stopped 350 pages in.
@John what?! I loved it!! My first King book ? the ending killed me though ?
I would have to go with Cell as well…not my favorite read, however. Maybe 11/22/63. ?
@Kim oh I loved the ending of 11/22/63 bitter but sweet ?
That was why I rated it a 3. Would have been a 4 otherwise.
It was. But I almost teared up! Beautiful read. ❤
@Kim I legit did cry ?
Lisey’s Story is the only one he has made me shed a tear, that last sentence. ?
@Kim Liseys Story is my all time favourite book (other than the Dark Tower series of course)
Mine too! I rarely get to say that! Thankee big big!
Elevation by stephen king
I liked the ending, actually loved this little book.
When the lights go out by Mary Kubica…
The Partner by John Grisham.
Z for Zachariah. But, to be fair, the author passed before completing it so it was finished by his daughter I believe.
Bird Box
Gone with the wind. Rhett and Scarlett need to reconcile.
The Long Walk by Richard Bachman?
I’m confused of the ending ?
Under the Dome
“Me before you”
Divergent
anything by Janet evanovich
Gone with the wind
Martin Eden by Jack London
Jenessa Jones series by Debra Burroughs
I’d like to give the script of the My Sister’s Keeper movie back to the writers and tell them to fix it!
@Heather I want to know why they changed it the way they did, what did it gain? Was it more pc???
How are the endings different?
Different sisters die in each.
@Cathi in my opinion, changing it just made it typical where the original ending was a shock.
@Heather I agree completely!
The Deathly Hallows.
?
I agree, too many deaths.
too many silly marriages
Im just upset that Harry didn’t die. I thought it was a cop-out. And the epic, end-all fight felt rushed. I was disappointed. I’m not gonna say that I hate the book, just wanted a little more out of it

Ready Player One. I’d tell Cline that the controller dude of the net being into the 80’s is really… dumb. The 80’s sucked. Your book sucks now too. I want to finish it. 70’s or 90’s?

@Jayne especially the ones where they die in the end….oh wait
@Andrea …someone ALWAYS dies!!!
The Outsiders
The Tattooist of Auschwitz.
Journey under the midnight sun by keigo Hisagino
Harry Potter. Epilogue killed it.
@Carrie how?
@Pamela She wrote it first, but her style evolved in the years to actually publishing it. Parts of it were okay, but her alleged refusal to edit it makes it seem like she was trying to force the happy ending feelings.
I disagree lol. It was great
@Pamela I’m glad you enjoyed it however!
One of us is lying
Whoever wrote Handmaid’s Tale. Rewrite the whole thing while you’re at it
@Pamela what? why? did you read the historical notes at the end?
I can’t remember if I did or not. But the book was such a bore I probably didn’t.
And the ending was so worthless
@Pamela the historical notes are part of the book. they are the ending. so it doesn’t really make sense unless you read them. and it’s also up to your interpretation. those are the best kinds of endings: open ended because the story doesn’t end there.
I disagree lol. I hate open ended books, always have
@Pamela ok. we all have different opinions ?♀️
Allegiant (sorry, but I hated the ending of the book).
@Stace so agree
The Phantom of the Opera, Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows, and the Green Mile
Maybe Allegiant
Wow. That just seems arrogant. It’s their creative process whether we like it or not.
@Pamela l read for pleasure and lm glad you have never read a book where you thought “well that sucks” after reading it. The ending of a book sometimes brings down your whole reading pleasure of it.
Well said @Judith
Reading is our creative process imo so it works both ways. Also, we’re not talking literally here.
Quite a few Stephen King ones ?
Allegiant it was a series l loved reading and the only book l have ever thrown across a room at the end of it in disgust.
In 2007 Karen Slaughter released Beyond Reach. Oh how I would have loved a different ending. Seeing as this books ending hasn’t left my thoughts when asked this question I’d say she was brilliant.
Ruin and Rising to Leigh Bardugo.
The Giver, the ending was so stupid
@Jan why do you say so?
I agree! Nice to hear I’m not the only one who felt this way
Deathly Hallows
Great Expectations
Finale by becca Fitzpatrick . Don’t kill Scott ?
The Butterfly garden
@Ellen i read all three. There is a fourth one now
@Josie I loved it so much except the ending. Am about to start the 3rd one
The Truth Factory by Cody McFadyen ? It was a terrible book, I used to be a giant fan and when the wait was over I was super happy to keep on reading about Smoky Barrett but the book (not only the ending) was sooo bad ?
Jodi Picoult My Sister’s Keeper
Gone girl ?
Behind Her Eyes
Night Film
Huckleberry Finn
Good choice. So true!
The third shatter me book. I refuse to read her newest ones in the series
Not a book but anytime I think of that my mind immediately goes to Lost the tv show. Can’t think of a book that fits for me.
Veronica Roth – Alligent
jkr – deathly hallows. choose a better name for your kid, harry !
the fate of the tearling – felt like it was such a huge build up and it ended up being so disappointing
Hunger Games: Mockingjay.
Lol no..Mockingjay is the last book in the Hunger Games trilogy. They did split the book into two movies
Mariem Mur Yes there is!
Little Women. Jo should have ended up with Laurie.
The dark tower series by Stephen king – I don’t know how else it could have ended but I was so disappointed
I wish The Tattooist of Auschwitz went into more detail other than an epilogue. It seemed like there was more of his story to tell.
