I hate it when I read the reviews on the cover stating its the best thriller/page turner/scariest ever! N it’s dull as ditchwater! – that’s when I want my money back!!!
I have to admit that I don’t read the back cover about the book anymore as it can be too detailed and completely ruin the book. I make a judgement about reading a book based on its cover ? and if I like it buy more from that author. I agree, some ratings are ott and I can only conclude that we weren’t reading the same book ? ?
@Sharon or they had a different experience than you. To each their own. I wouldn’t assume others are wrong just because I may not have enjoyed a book. That’s the best thing about reading, isn’t it? We all don’t have the same opinion.
I am reading a book just now really enjoying it and was just thinking the same. Hope it’s not got a rubbish ending it’s How much could you lose in 29 seconds by T M LOGAN.
I’ve had several from Amazon with a “brilliant” write up. Page after page of twists and turns That you won’t see coming” Yeah right!! All the books have the same comment! Lol. Some of them sooo boring aswell?
Someone put their heart and soul into that book! The authors would be heartbroken to hear these comments. Please if you can’t be kind don’t comment at all on social media xxxxx
Isn’t everyone entitled to an opinion even if it doesn’t bend to the majority ? she didn’t name the book or author so I don’t understand why the reaction
Of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion – I think that was the point I was making. My issue was that because others liked it, they were wrong (“obviously not reading the same book” comment ) – if she is entitled to not enjoy a book, others are also entitled to enjoy it – neither is wrong – that’s what I said.
I actually bought a book based on a 1 star review. It is one of my favourite books. I don’t usually read reviews until after Ive read and reviewed the book myself
@Susan one of my books that has the lowest star rating (3&a half) has hit the bestsellers chart too many times to count. For some reason bad reviews equate to double sales and more author royalties lol
My ‘not the same book’ comment was meant tongue in cheek HOWEVER I completely take on board and apologise that not everything ‘transalates’ well on social media or is intepreted in the manner in which it was meant. I would like to assure people that I would never intentionally be mean spirited. I guess what I wanted to convey was I am an avid book reader and get committed to a book so it’s disapointing when a book that has so much potential and grips you all the way through you very suddenly ends and in a way that’s not true to the book. I know a writer is baring their soul to the reading audience and maybe in some cases they need to have a few endings that they get feedback on from a panel before settling on one that doesn’t give justice to their work. If a reader doesn’t enjoy the book they most likley won’t give the writer a second chance by reading a further novel which is a huge shame. Hopefully this has come across more constructively?

@Deborah Not everyone will enjoy or get the same experience from a book as someone else. Your ditchwater could be someone elses oasis.

sorry, taken on board.
I don’t normally .. Will definitely not be taking any notice in future .. X
Shit! Hope it wasn’t one of mine!!!
That was my first reaction too!
My first reaction is hope it’s not one of our author members

@Barbara Great read. I don’t think it had a rubbish ending
@Susan thanks Susan must get it finished now

It wasn’t your comment that raised my eyebrows ??
Nor me. And it also depends on how much you read and value other people’s reviews.
I never read reviews as it is that persons interpretation of the story.

@Louise Do you think people like to decide for themselves. Or whatever is in the review appeals to them. Good for you Louise x
@Susan I think it’s a bit of both. It certainly is for me.

@Sharon I agree. I read a book earlier in the year . It was a really good book until the ending. I dropped down the star rating because of it
Hope Stephen King isn’t on here, because although It is one of my favourite books the ending is somewhat..er…awful ?
I find this more and more. Don’t know if it’s the books or my expectations
@Gail You have a good point there. My opinion is we read so many books and measure books against my favourite reads
It’s bound to happen sometimes. It just makes me more eager to dive into the next book and put it all right!! x
If you don’t like a book. Give it up and start another..!!
