These are wonderful. Her first book, Still Life, probably wasn’t her best but they just get better and better as they go along. I love the main characters.
I absolutely love James Oswald’s Inspector McLean series – crime with touch of the occult making it a little different -there are currently 8 books in the series with a new one coming out next year. (y) I also love Denzil Meyrick’s DCI Daley series. Sharon Bolton’s Lscey Flint series Harlan Coben’s Myron Bolitar series has already been mentioned Camilla Lackberg’s Patrik Hedstrom & Erica Falck series Kristine Ohlsson’s Fredrika Bergman & Alex Recht series – both Swedish authors, so pretty dark books.
Lisa Jackson has 2 great series that I have enjoyed. Alvarez & Pescoli are women detectives.Start with Left to Die the next one is Rick Bentz/Reuben Montoya and starts with Hot Blooded.
Richard Jury series by Martha Grimes. Not to heavy with a great cast of characters and a touch of humor to boot. And there are a lot of books in this series.
“My sisters grave” by Robert Dugoni. Didn’t think I would like it, started it twice before I got into it, then finished it at two in the morning. I see he has written several books this is the only one I have read, but will now search out others.
James Patterson he has that out about girl deactivate the first on is first to die then 2nd chance then 3 rd degree and so on 4th of July 5th horseman I think
Is the the Shardlake books by C j Sansom Great books well written – I’d forgotten about them but just discovered there’s a new one so that’s me happy for a couple of weeks

Agatha Christie and Arthur Conan Doyle have been mentioned already… Colin Dexter maybe, if you like the classics.
If you like or prefer contemporary American detectives the Rizzoli and Isles series by Tess Gerritson are good, imho.
Another one if you decide you might want to try something a bit different, because it’s as much a fantasy series as it is a detective series, are The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher.
Women’s Murder Club, Michael Bennett series and NYPD Red series by James Patterson are some of my favorites. I also loved the Mr Mercedes trilogy by Stephen King and the Agent Pendergast series by Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.
