looking for a funny, easy and clean read.
Ok, I’m looking for a funny, easy and clean read. I’m a stay at home, homeschooling mom of 3 boys and so I have to take every little chance I get to read (usually about 20 -30 minutes 4 nights a week before I totally crash). Because of this, it’s difficult for me to invest in a deep, needy book. I like to make the most of my time reading and love to laugh.
Anything by Fannie Flagg
Any of Bill Bryson’s travel books, absolutely hilarious and easy to dip in and out of if you don’t have much time.
That sounds about right up my alley!!!
Even better, I love his “At Home” book which traces the history of how and why houses have developed as they have.
@Kathryne that was my first Bryson. Loved it so much!
I haven’t read that one, I’ll keep an eye out for it 🙂
Where’d You Go Bernadette ?
This is exactly what I was going to recommend. This book is great – easy read and hilarious
A Man Called Ove, by Frederick Backman.
Definitely one of the ones I’d recommend.
The Rosie Project
Definitely!
Anything by Alexander McCall Smith
Willa Cather
Her short stories might be a great way to go if you are limited on time.
The know it all by aj jacobs
Jana Deleon Mudbug series
Fantasy or sci fi? Terry Pratchett is easy-reading and is considered by most to be funny. For sci-fi both “Ready Player One” and “Armada” by Ernest Cline are non-demanding reads and if you were at all nerdy in the 80’s the references and quotes will amuse.
The nanny diaries
Jan Karon books – the Mitford series.
Love love the Mitford series
Chickens in the headlights. It’s a great book for moms of boys. It might be a fun read aloud. It’s about a family with 7 boys who decide it’s a good idea to get goats and chickens ones summer so their boys can learn responsibility. It’s about all the hilarity that can and does happen with a bunch of boys, summer vacation, and chickens.
Check out the Sweet Cove series by JA Whiting. Meets all your criteria!
Delicious – Ruth Reichl
Garlic and Sapphires by Ruth Reichl is a fun read, too!
The Rosie Project
Best.
If You Lived Here, I’d Know Your Name by Heather Lende…At Home in Mitford by Jan Karon…Carry On, Jeeves by P G Wodehouse…Belles on Their Toes by Frank B Gilbreth…The No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency [first in a series] by Alexander McCall Smith…An Irish Country Doctor by Patrick Taylor…Enslaved by Ducks by Bob Tarte…Paris To The Moon by Adam Gopnik…
The Flavia Deluce mysteries by Alan Bradley.
Jen Lancaster is really funny and not provocative.
Guideposts Teashop Mysteries is a nice, clean series of cozy mysteries with two loving sisters who run a Teashop in a small tourist town. Easy, fun reads. (They also have many other lines or series of mysteries that would fit your request.)
Alexander McCall Smiths series The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society.
Crazy Rich Asians
Add 30 minutes a day by reading while your kids read! Best to model for them your making the time and opportunity to read.
When I was a student and had really little time for reading, I loved Me Talk Pretty One Day (and his other books) by David Sedaris. Very funny essays, and they have the benefit of letting you feel like you finish something, and you’re not trying to remind yourself wheat you’ve read if you missed a few days.
Loving Andy Weir’s The Martian. Son said Matt Damon plays lead. Sounds perfect. Laughing through out. Botanists and space travel enthusiasts would love it. Highly enjoying.
The Flavia de Luce Mysteries by Alan Bradley are great!
Which one should I read first? Are they written in order or can they each stand alone? I have read many of Louise Penny books but not in any order. Each can stand alone but it is better to read them in order.
Start with “The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie” as they are written in order.
“Needy” book…I love it! ?
“Mrs. Fletcher” is super fast and a little bit naughty, which is partly why it’s super fast! Lol
The Agatha Raisin series would fit the bill. Light hearted murder mysteries set in the Cotswolds if I remember correctly.
Janet Evanovich books are lots of fun.
The Rosie Project and The Rosie Effect – funny!
Cheaper by the Dozen. It’s an old book but a great read!
