The only John Grisham book I have ever read is “A Painted House”…it’s actually one of my favorite books! I’ve been told that this book is a different writing style than all his other books though?
@Jim….maybe so? For me, the main reason I like it is that it is based in the 50’s. I love almost any book that takes place in the 50s and 60s. I always tell people that I was born in the wrong decade!
Thinking back about those days gone by made me think of my dad’s memoirs (see link elsewhere here). He wrote Grisham, having been a contemporary and fellow Virginian, and Grisham wrote him a nice letter back!
That was my first and favorite too. It was so good I immediately started over when I finished it to read it again. And I was living in Biloxi at the time I was reading it so it was awesome to see all those places in print it was written free Katrina so I was actually a little sad that some of the places were not there anymore like to sub shop they are really supposed to order from. But based on the description I can tell it used to be there or at at least it was put in a real location.
John Grisham is amazing I have loved every single book I read by him except for two. Gray Mountain and the Rooster bar, and even though I didn’t love them they weren’t bad books they were good just not amazing like the other ones I’ve read. And the best part of his books is that you never know what directions are going to go in, you don’t even know who sides are on until the climax of the book. Great stuff!
I love his books! Even the non lawyer themed ones like Painted House and Skipping Christmas. It would be fun to read his earlier books and then watch the movies.
I read John Grisham books back to back and had no problem. The only thing I saw consistent his books was that many of them were about lawyers other than that I really didn’t see any similar themes, it seem like he told a different story every time.
I’ve read all his books. Most are courtroom centered dramas. His later books like Painted House, Playing for Pizza, and the baseball one are different. My absolute favorite is THE TESTAMENT. About a lawyer, but not courtroom, and very touching.
Love his books but the can become a bit repetitive if you read too many of them
I love his books!
Old ones are great. Newer ones… Not so great
im a fan but i did not love all of his books. loved his older books more than the newer ones
I’ve read some old ones a long time ago I liked, just finished reading the Theodore Boone series, it’s geared to kids i think but it was great
I’ve enjoyed most of his books
His early books – rainmaker, client, pelican brief, time to kill, the firm – are amazing, new ones not so much…
Very good.
I’ve read them all and, apart from a couple, they are great books.
I liked the Testament
I like his earlier books, A time to kill…The Pelican brief…the Firm, those were the best
I’m with you those 3 were the best
Yesss!!!
He also has a YA collection
Start with his first hit, The Firm, which was a truly amazing book when it first came out.
A Time to Kill was hid first.
It was, but it wasn’t a best seller until The Firm made Grisham’s name.
Very.
I read the “Firm” before the movie was made, & it was WAY better than the movie? book was awesome
Totally agree. Read the old stuff: The Firm, A Time To Kill, all those that came out within that 10 yr period.
I don’t care for his memoirs or books about other subject matter – but you might
@Beth nope!
I don’t care for his books because I think he uses a lot of unnecessary detail. But his books make really good movies.

That’s the only one I’ve ever read too!
Same here. Nary a mention of the word “lawyer”. Maybe that’s why it’s so good!

My favorite is The Runaway Jury. Reminded me of 12 Angry Men.
