Is The Haunting of Hill House worth the read anyone? Is The Haunting of Hill House worth the read anyone? Tessa #review
It’s on my TBR list, but I read “We Have Always Lived in the Castle” and didn’t care for it. Willing to give another Shirley Jackson a chance just because her personal life was so intriguing.
@Naté she wrote “the lottery” and that was great
I enjoyed it. It wasnt very spooky but I liked the story
Of course. A classic.
Yes. The language is beautiful. Literary classic.
It’s on my TBR list, I watched the Netflix series and really enjoyed it
@Fatimah see, the Netflix series has only name in similarity ftom what i know
The only book to actually creep me out in over 20 years
A thought it was ok
I love books. I respect books. I treat books well.
However after finishing this read, I threw the book on the floor and said, “what a waste of time!”
I didn’t find it chilling or creepy. The writing didn’t captivate me to have any feelings towards the characters. I found the writing to be jumbled and confusing. It was not a page turner. On the contrary, I found myself rereading the same page over and over again, because I had forgotten what I had already read.
This is one of those rare times when I liked the tv series better than the book. I didn’t enjoy the book that much.
Yes! I thought it was sooo much better than the tv series!
I’ve heard very mixed reviews. I have not read it but I’ve heard the book is nothing like the show and quite slow. But I also have heard that other people love it. So idk
@Alexandra the show was good but the more correct version i think is the movie the Haunting 2002
In a word… YES!
It is beautifully written and very atmospheric, but nothing at all like the TV series. So if that is what you are hoping for, this is not the book for you.
there was a movie too wasn’t there?
It’s great as is the movie with Julie Harris. One of the scariest movies ever.
