Is children of blood and bone worth reading??? I don’t want to buy it just for the cover art but it’s tempting
Is children of blood and bone worth reading??? I don’t want to buy it just for the cover art but it’s tempting ? I want to know if the actual story is good as well
I enjoyed it and that’s not even a genre I typically like.
I really enjoyed it!
I had a friend describe it as Avatar the Last Airbender in Nigeria. He’s not wrong, but I don’t think that is a bad thing either. I listened to the audiobook, which was absolutely beautifully done.
@Lara I love avatar! Okay I’m sold ? going to get it
I loved if. Great book.
The story is good but I have an issue with author
??♀️
@Tara im curious to hear about your issue with the author if you’re willing to share.
She accused a very well established author with plagiarism. And had a whole bunch of people attacking her. When proven very wrong she refused to pull down the tweets and the other person was still being attacked.
Tara Poole ah. Right! I remember that. I actually stand by her decision to not delete the tweet. I think it’s important that things exist as public information. I also, however, believe that the Nora Roberts title wasn’t stolen and thus Tomi Adeyemi was wrong. Black women have historically had their work, art particularly, stolen and profited off of—especially in a white publishing world. It is a wound that cuts deep and I understand the defensiveness there. I think Nora Roberts was unkind in her response to TA and think that neither side is blameless. Thanks so much for sharing your POV!
I have the same issue wirh Tomi and I think Nora’s response to her was very classy, all things considered. There were so many things TA could have done before putting Nora Roberts on unnecessary blast… like simple internet research or shooting her agent a question. Instead, she went off on the internet with her baseless accusation. I imagine the vitriol Nora received from TA’s gullible supporters was quite a lot to handle so I don’t blame Nora at all for her response.
i liked it
Very trope-ish. I didn’t manage to finish it.
Ditto. However, I finished it. Meh.
I liked it! It’s definitely my kinda story though.
@Maeve yeah it sounds like something I’d usually like too but just wanted to see what others thought
I enjoyed it! I think it’s getting a movie too!
@Kristina really!? I’m definitely going to read it now lol
@Shawnesy Yay! I’m a very avid “read the book before the movie” person lol
@Kristina same here ? even if it’s not usually a genre I read
My experience is either you love it or DNF. It has a lot of strong themes. It wasn’t my thing, but I have friends that RAVE over it.
@Brenda that’s what I’ve noticed! I think I’ll just take a risk and buy it and see
I hated it only made it a few chapters in before throwing in the towel.
I thought the concept was interesting, but I wasn’t a fan of the book.
I absolutely loved that book- deserved all the hype it got 🙂
I really liked it, although some plot lines seemed rushed/too obvious.
I found it disappointing to say the least. I didn’t even finish it ??♀️
I really liked it, although some plot lines seemed rushed/too obvious.
It is SO good! I really liked it.
So good!!! Had my attention the whole time!
I loved it!
It got off to a slow start for me but I really ended up enjoying it! I think it’s definitely worth a try.
So good!!!!
I quite liked it. There were some parts that i thought were quite unique
I liked it a lot. I’m excited for the next one
I loved it!
It was decent, definitely a great read for the target audience. It was a touch generic in terms of fantasy tropes and themes but worth a read for seeing all that through a different lens than super generic Medieval European faux world
Hm. Maybe wait until it’s on sale? It was a decent read, I’m glad that I finished it but it was very predictable. The concept was good, but it just kind of fell flat after all the hype.
I really liked it. I almost feel like it’s helpful to read the authors note at the end of the book before you read it though because it helps give some context, in a way. I listened to the audiobook and cried during the authors note at the end. ? And I think it helped me to appreciate the book overall much more. I don’t think the book was spectacular but I enjoyed it and loved the ideas in it. It’s also my kind of genre though. 🙂
It is so worth it!
YES! 100%! Give it a chance!
I really liked it, although some plot lines seemed rushed/too obvious.
Sometimes I find myself just skimming and only focusing on dialogue when a book is rather light
Not worth the hype. It was mediocre. If you’re into the same old YA tropes, you may enjoy it, but I don’t feel it added anything new to the genre despite the rave reviews.
Not even worth cracking open the cover. Typical mediocre YA being churned out lately with all the usual suspects when it comes to YA tropes. A lot of page fillers to bulk it up.
Not worth the hype. It is a bit wattpad-y in its plot and language.
I didn’t like it at all. I DNF’ed it 30% in
I’ve really enjoyed reading the comments from people who either loved or hated it. Apparently, it’s a very polarizing book. I enjoyed reading it, but it is very obviously inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender and I thought the romance was very rushed. It’s a cool concept, though.
I really liked it! ???
