Yes. Stardust or the Ocean at the End of the Lane or even Neverwhere is better to begin reading Gaiman in my opinion. American Gods is a bit long if you are not used to his style.
Read the forward of the 10th anniversary. It’s according to Gaimen the most rambling sort of random book he’s ever written. It’s worth the read, but it’s supposed to be rambling and confusing to some extent. Personally it was amazing to me and worth. I’m currently rereading it
Try the Audible version. There is one with a full cast of people playing the characters. It is amazing. It may help! If you don’t already have an Audible account, you can sign up and get one book credit for free!
I didn’t really enjoy it. I read the whole book but couldn’t really get into it or engage with the story. Was quite disappointed; after all the hype, I thought it would be amazing. ?
I could not either.Love Good Omens though – and they’re making that into a movie…!
I read it. The end was better. But still not anything I have any desire to read. Wasn’t anything I was crazy about.
it was challenging but it was my first Gaiman book and now I’m totally into all of his books. I found it worthy.
I loved American Gods!
Three times yes.
Yes!
I loved it too!
I absolutely loved it but I appreciate that Neil Gaiman’s style might not be to everyone’s taste.
I liked it, but was a slow slog. I do love Gaiman’s writing, though.
@Dan
I had a hard time getting into it. I forced myself to finish it because so many people love it, but I still didn’t care for it.
I would think you’d be glad to finish this one.
I liked the tv series 😀
There’s a series?? Maybe I can get into that. Didn’t really like the book. Is it on Netflix or amazon or Hulu ?
Starz
Tks. I don’t have starz ?. Maybe it’ll be on dvd one day.
I really enjoyed it.
It’s definitely quirky!
I love it but I usually recommend other books of his as that one is harder reading.
I really didn’t like it but our librarian did
I’m reading it right now and find it slow going. I have other Gaian books so maybe I should try one of those?

I just finished reading it. I thought it was great. There are some plot twists and surprises towards the end.
Great Book
American Gods changed my life. It is a wonderful read.
I tried really hard to continue it but I couldn’t. But a lot of others enjoyed it.
Try Good Omens instead
Yes. It’s a slow burner but I loved it.
I couldn’t either. It just seemed so anticlimactic and all over the place
Only worth it if you think it is… 😉
Yes, i think. ?
I listened to the audiobook and had a hard time with it.
I loved it!

Have you tried the full cast audiobook yet? I have listened to it at least 4 times through. It is amazing.
I have. I love it

Starts super slow, but the ending was great and I freaking love Shadow.
Yes
The premise is fun and the adapted gods are interesting, but the climax is disappointing.
Yes! Don’t give up on it! Took me a good 200 pages to really like it.
