Carnage by Lesley Jones Bleed Like Me by C.Desir Ugly by Margaret McHeyzer Full Tilt by Emma Scott The Man I Love by Suanne Laqueur Mists of Serengeti by Leylah Attar
@Sydney So, my father had MD and passed from complications last July. The last 90 pages were rough, and I was left absolutely sobbing at the end. Like, I needed some time to myself.
Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte. Read it first in middle school, on my own. Then in high school for a class, in college for a class, plus several times during and since. It stands the test of time and it’s one of the best novels written. Ever.
@Jay It’s about a boy, Connor, whose mum is ill (cancer) and he isn’t coping very well with this fact (and some other circumstances in his life). There’s a “monster” that comes to Connor to tell him stories that would teach him lessons, and these lessons will eventually help Connor come to terms with his mom’s situation. I recommend you read the book first (it’s not long) and then see the movie. The movie is amazingly good – and makes you cry harder than the book.
“The art of racing in the rain.” Have the tissues ready. It’s narrative from a dog’s point of view of him and his beloved owner and the owners ups and downs in life. It’s a true unconditional love story that’ll make you sob.
Lilac Girls. It’s a WW2 historical fiction novel but it revolves around the lives of three women in the war. One is placed in a camp, the other is the camp doctor, and the third is a crisis worker for the war. It’s beautifully written. I don’t usually like historical or war novels but it’s one of the best I’ve ever read.
Fiction: The Gift of Rain by Tan Twan Eng – made me bawl in the second half (WW2 story), The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini (I cried intermittently), A Little Life by Hanya Yanagihara (I cried during most of the book – serious trigger warnings for this one, but so worth the read). Non-fiction: Heaven’s Coast by Mark Doty, Borrowed Time by Paul Monette.
If you pick Reflection of Memories “. . . you will laugh, cry, get frustrated, find understanding . . . and evoke some of your own personal memories as you identify and relate to these unforgettable characters. Definitely a roller coaster ride of emotions.” Those words are a quote from a fan.
I just posted a short story that I wrote… that no matter how many times I’ve read it or even the fact that I wrote it… I end up in tears. :'( I’m a huge crybaby.
