I want a book that will make me cry. Romantic but not cheesy, and obviously well written. Any ideas please?

The Pursuit of Happiness by Douglas Kennedy. I read it purely because it was recommended by my manager and thought I’d hate it (it had a cheesy ‘romance’ front cover). But ended up loving it. I reread it every few years. ☺️?

@Lynne yep, Me Before You and Bridges are the only two books that have ever literally had me sobbing my heart out! Both great reads.
@Sarah have you read anything by Zinran? Chinese author/journalist?
Xinran. Not Zinram
@Lynne no I haven’t. Do I need to?! Where would I begin?
Captain Corelli’s Mandolin.
The Fault in our Stars had me sobbing!
The only two books I have read like this are The Notebook, Nicholas Sparks and The Time Treveller’s Wife, Audrey Niffenger and I love them
Me before you is a lovely read
If you like historical fiction, The Proud Breed by Celeste DeBlasis makes me sob. It’s an oldie but so good.
One Day in December by Josie Silver had me sobbing
And I love Anthony Capella novels – The different flavours of coffee is fab but takes a little while to get into.
Time Traveller”s Wife
The flight of Cornelia Blackwood by Susan Elliot

The Notebook or The Fault In Our Stars.
The Songs of Us….quite brilliant. Fits your brief perfectly.
@Dee, I was just about to suggest this one, but I didn’t want to double up.
An absolutely amazing book.
The Nightingale
Dani Atkins This Love
As well as ones already suggested (me before you series, time travellers wife) I also really enjoyed One Plus One (also by JoJo Moyes) & am currently reading The Night Circus which is a fantasy romance about two magicians which isn’t my usual type but I’m hooked! Personally quite surprised to see the notebook so many times, I adored the film but one of those rare occasions where I thought the book was terrible in comparison ?
I’m reading The Fault In Our Stars with my 12 year old. That might fit the bill? I don’t think it’s particularly aimed at kids although teens are the central characters.
Five feet apart., fault in our stars, nicolas sparks: safe haven, the longest ride.best of me.
Time travellers wife – balled my eyes out….
One Day. I guarantee you will sob!
@May I loved that book.
I did yes. Great book.
I read a book in my late teens which made me cry and has always stuck with me. Soul Love I think it was called. So sad and pure ??

The Persimmon Tree by Bryce Courtney
All The Bright Places
ET is the only book that actually made me cry ?
Perhaps Meet Me At the Museum? It’s not necessarily a tearjerker but it’s very moving.
Oh, no, I know; Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf. Beautifully written and had me weeping at times.
Together by Julie Cohen
Sandi Burrill and the Beach of Flames.

This secret we’re keeping by Rebecca Done, is a tough and pretty heartbreaking read, it’s stayed with me ever since I finished. The Ballroom by Anna Hope, too had me sobbing. Also, just read the Flat share by Beth O’Leary. I found myself reaching for the tissues a few times.
Lost for Words by Stephanie Butland is good.
Silence by Natasha Preston few trigger points but all round heartfelt romance ? it’s part of a series but you don’t have to read the others to enjoy the first one ?
Light between Oceans. Last Days of Rabbit Hayes
The horse whisperer
The bridges of Madison county
The book that really made me bawl was The Vintner’s Luck by Elizabeth Knox. I have had the sequel for ages and not dared to read it because I was so sad at the end of the first.
Thanks everyone. Lots to look at ?
