Highly recommend The ghosts and Jamal by Bridget Blankley. It’s a children’s book but I felt it was more than that and cried buckets…
On a serious note few must read classics. The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran. Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte. Things fall apart by Chinua Achebe. Letters to an unborn child by Orianna Fallacci (if you can find it as it’s not on reprint in English).
If you are looking for a light read I would go for any book by Victoria Hislop. My favourite of hers is Cartes Postales from Greece. But if you are looking to cry your best bet is The Island. The Familiars by Stacey Halls is rather good. And lastly The Finding by Bridget Collins.
CIty of Thieves by David benioff -the story of two little boys in war torn St. petersburg . On a mission . Benioff, btw, is a writer for Game of Thrones.
Karen, I don’t think there is a woman out there who won’t relate to at least one of the characters…I related to several during different times. And no, I no longer save the black bra for a ‘special occasion’! ?
I really enjoyed them. If you enjoyed 84 Charring Cross road you will like them. Duchess of Bloomsbury Street is her journal of her trip to England. It SO makes me want to go to England!
Kailyne’s Korner. (Full disclosure…I wrote it.) I wrote it after dealing with the loss of my mom, brothers, and others. This story is about 3 women of different ages and backgrounds who have suffered losses of varying degrees. They form a friendship and work through confusion and grief, You can read some reviews at Amazon.
Yes on The Notebook & A Man Called Ove. Also A Walk to Remember, The Bridges of Madison County & Suzanne’s Diary for Nicholas which is James Patterson, believe it or not! Reads more like Nicholas Sparks. Oh, & N Sparks’ The Guardian!
Someone like you -Sarah Dessen it’s a quick easy read but it made me cry happy tears toward the end. Also I just love the Sisterhood of the Travel Pants books but don’t read the 5th one unless you want to cry sad tears
@Rachael, could you list some genres you like, or other titles/authors you especially enjoy? It’d make it easier to suggest something that would be your type of read.
