Carrie, Cujo, Desperation, Dreamcatcher, Firestarter, Four Past Midnight, The Green Mile, It, Misery, Nightmare and Dreamscapes, Pet Sematary, and there are a lot of other books by him that you might be interested in, including The Dark Tower series. I couldn’t get into those. But you might love The Dark Tower series.
I literally SCREAMED, threw the book, and slept in my parent’s room (I was 17). Reading, writing, or saying the words “Moonlight and shadows” still gives me goosebumps. I have them now! I don’t know that I would recommend that for a first read though 🙂
I vote with you! The Shining is just amazing and the Stand is something that makes you think. That book is the only King book that I’ve ever kept- and bought in hardback.
“11/22/63” and “The Shining” even if you have seen the movie! “The Green Mile” was published in serial form but I think it is one book now. Hard to pick just one…oh, and “The Dark Tower”!
IT and 11/22/63. And The Green Mile. And Pet Semetary. And The Shining. Oh, and Firestarter. He really is the best, I can’t pick just two!! (But IT is my favourite!)
I found Misery rather different from most of his books. The feeling of that man being confined to one room, unable to walk, was terrifying. Pet Semetary was very scary and the last few lines unforgettable, but, not wanting to give away the story, I didn’t like the very sad part towards the end.
I love The Shining and The Stand. Both super scary. I also loved The Dark Tower series, read the first four. I think the recommendations will depend on what genres you like…
The Stand.
The Stand! And ‘Salem’s Lot
Misery & The Shining
Misery for sure
Misery!
I agree with The Stand
The Green Mile
The stand!
The Stand and IT
The Stand for sure.
IT is another gem of a story.
If you’re looking for something shorter, try the Shining, Cujo, Pet Sematary, Different Seasons.
The Green Mile!
The stand and the girl who loved Tom Gordon.
Yes! Tom Gordon and The Long Walk.
Salems lot!
The Stand
Start with Carrie, of course.
As I did! And Im glad I did!
IT and the shining.
Wow. So many people recommend The Stand! That good??
Yep, it’s long though, so settle in. But it’s a superb book.
But start with Carrie, I reckon.
The Stand is fantastic.

11/22/63 and the Mr Mercedes trilogy
The Stand and 11/22/63

The Stand! (And then it’s a toss up between Green Mile and It)

The Stand & Misery. Dolores Claiborne is also an excellent choice!
The Stand and 11/22/63
I just finished 11/22/63 and loved it!
11/22/63 and Mr Mercedes (I haven’t read all of his books but those are my favorite out of the ones I’ve read)
The Shining and Pet Sematary.
Easy: The Long Walk, 11/22/63. First one will mess you up a little, the latter is pure, fun adventure.
The Stand… The Dead Zone
Eyes of the Dragon & Gerald’s Game
I haven’t read all of his books, but the two I read most recently I really enjoyed. 11-22-63 and It
The Stand; The Shining; The Green Mile
Thinner
This book doesn’t get mentioned much, but I loved it!
Tom Gordon
Tom Gordon
Oops, just reverse the images. I also liked It
It and Shining
The Green Mile is a series of, I think 8, short novels and is just phenomenal, but 11/22/63 is my absolute favorite.
I loved Rose Madder!
Green mile. And pet cemetary.
Green mile and the shining
@Anuradha ?

I have so many favorites! The ones I reread the most are Firestarter, The Shining, Eyes of the Dragon, and The Long Walk.

@Sherry damn iPhone corrects to the most random shit.
IT, and Carrie
Gerald’s Game……still creeps me out….
Especially if you have dogs!!
@Sherry omg. Yes! Worse was the moonlight man

Carrie and Misery
Carrie is a good one to start with. Also Salem’s Lot.

I loved 11/22/63 and Under the Dome. I’m reading Needful Things right now and not loving it. Ready for it to be over, but not enough to quit reading.
Carrie and firestarter
I found Misery rather different from most of his books. The feeling of that man being confined to one room, unable to walk, was terrifying. Pet Semetary was very scary and the last few lines unforgettable, but, not wanting to give away the story, I didn’t like the very sad part towards the end.
