First book Carrie
I think his best book is “11/22/63”. I couldn’t put it down.
I agree.
Evan Ethan what do you suggest? I say IT and The Shining.
The green mile….it’s amazing
His older stuff. Carrie, The Shining, Fireststarter
Start off with something like Misery or Needful Things. I’d wait to read his bigger stuff until you get a feel for his style.
Misery
Yes, the older stuff– The Stand was my favorite.
Not sure I’d want to start with The Stand or even It ?
11.22.63
Start with IT or The Dark Half.
The stand
Dead zone
needful things
Christine
The shining
Carrie
Carrie
The Shining or The Stand
Salems lot ofcourse his 2nd book and my favourite one.
Rose Madder
Try The Bachman Books (S.Kings alter ego) or any of his short story collections first 🙂
My mom always told me that Delores Claiborne and Mr. Mercede’s were easy reads! I’m reading Salem’s Lot, first Stephen King book. It’s hard for me to read just because it takes so long to get into it, but I’m going to keep going.
I love Dolores Claiborne
I probably should’ve listened to my mom and started with that one, but it is on my TBR list. I bought Salem a couple years ago so I figured I’d read that before I bought more. But I love all of his movies so I’m excited to start reading the books!
Green mile
start from the beginning in paperbacks and just have a blast, they are all fun
Green Mile and The Stand were my favourites!
Green mile
The stand
Green Mile is good start and he does have a new novel out
Hard to pick one.m, and everyone has different taste
Just released stand alone novella, The Body which is what movie Stand by Me was based on. Can’t wait to read this one to see what differences are. But 11/22/63 was good. I don’t read him either but that was very interesting.
Needful Things
The Stand and 11-22-63 are excellent.
My favorite books by him are
Gerald’s Game
The Eyes of the Dragon
The Shining
The Green Mile
How the heck could I forget The Green Mile???
Carrie
I loved Pet Sematary and four seasons
i love his earliest stuff. after “pet sematary”(which i thought was awful) i kind of quite reading him. “the shining” is one of the scariest books i’ve ever read, but “the stand” is my favorite. “different seasons” contains short stories, that some of his best movies came from.
Carrie
another one of my stephen king favorites!
@Melanie it was the first stephen king I ever read! I recommend it to all first time readers
@Melissa -it was my first king book too! i was 13 when i read it, so carrie’s age and being a student really made me connect.
The shining… That was my first one. Then read doctor sleep second.
Mr. Mercedes
carrie
The Stand, The Shining, there’s so many. I like Rose Madder too. I read that years ago. It doesn’t get as much attention as his other books. Oh and Misery is a good one.
The Stand, best by far
I loved The Stand
Pet Sematary!!
I just started reading Stephen King and the book is called sleeping beauties, not bad so far.
the Outsider is good also
the stand
The Stand
Shining
The Stand followed by the Gunslinger series.
Carrie
The Girl Who Loved Tom Gordon
I agree with The Stand.
Pet Cemetery
Salem’s Lot. In my opinion it is his best novel.
Have you read The Outsider I’m enjoying it very much
Cujo
Salem’s lot
Duma key
Mr Mercedes
The shining
Dream catcher
Actually… Just real them all friend!
The Long Walk
Definately an older book. Misery, Cujo or Firestarter ?
The green mile
The Green Mile, It, Different Seasons or Fire starter.
The Shining
Start out easy with something like Carrie or Pet Semetary. He can be overwhelming for those who are new to his stuff.
Start with his earlier works.
