Tuesdays with Morrie. Cried buckets at the end of that!
On the same topic, try Every Note Played by Lisa Genova. I’m working up the courage to read it. I have ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease), which is the book’s subject matter, so it’s hard because it really hits home.
@Mick, so sorry to hear that you have ALS that must be tough. Not surprised you are having to work up the courage. I wish you all the best.
All The Bright Places- by Jennifer Niven
I avoid those kinds of books!
@Pat I did for a long time. I even quit watching the end of sad movies. I love Titanic, the notebook, steel magnolias, etc. So I’d watch it up to a certain point and then turn it off!
Sarah’s Key
The Dovekeepers by Alice Hoffman
The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo
Educated, parick melrose novels, the Crooked little road to semi ever after. I also really enjoy tearjerkers and depressing books. I think there is a thread of hope that runs through them that in my opinion mix things honest. I don’t really like overly happy books life is tough but we got to keep trucking.
The Glass Castle
A Man Called Ove by Erik Backman. I cried so hard!
The Fault of Our Stars
My Sister’s Keeper
Come Away With Me by Karma Brown. You will not regret it.
Sarah’s Key
The Art of Racing in the Rain??
A little life
So many of these are on my to be read shelf…can’t read fast enough to keep up with my list.
Same
White Oleander!!! ♥️
I read this a number of years ago, but I remember recommending it!
The Guardian by Nickolas Sparks is very good! I don’t usually get into his books but I loved this one!
Me Before You
A Dog’s Purpose
I don’t know if this will make you cry…but Manic Kingdom by Dr. Erin Stair is an awesome true story. I cried at certain parts. Mostly suspense though and really almost a satire on mental health.
THE ENDING I WANT BY SAMANTHA TOWLES
Bridges of Madison County
A Little Life!
Sophie’s Choice!
I’m sorry I read Sophie’s Choice, but I don’t like horror either.
The Nightingale and the Orphan Train.
Here are a few blasts from the past that hold up well and will have you ugly crying for sure: “Death be not Proud” by John Gunther, “Flowers for Algernon” by Daniel Keyes, and “Mila 18” by Leon Uris. The last one is a bit of a long journey, but so, so worth it.
