The Shardlake books by CJ Sansom, the first is Dissolution (edited). Ken Follet Pillars of the Earth, Bernard Cornwell Stonehenge, Jaqueline Winspear’s Maisie Dobbs series. If you enjoy war fiction I can give you several excellent titles.

The C.J.Sansom books known as the Shardlake series are wonderful as well as Ken Follets The Pillars of the Earth and World Without End. Have read each of these many times and enjoy everytime

So many to list! I love the author Anya Seton, her books Katherine, Green Darkness, Avalon, Dragonwyck are awesome. Outlander series, Wilderness series by Sara Donati, The Kitchen House by Kathleen Grissom, Doomsday Book by Connie Willis, Pillars of the Earth series, Clan of the Cave Bear series, Tea Rose Trilogy and I could go on and on.

The welsh princes trilogy by Sharon Kay penman. Here Be Dragons is the first book.

Caveat: you must read 180 pages before it gets good. The first pages are a slog, but from page 181 on its absolutely captivating.

I absolutely loved Edith Pargeter’s “The heaven Tree” trilogy (so sad!) and her Brothers Gwynedd series – read those over 40 years ago!! 😮 But read “Heaven Tree” books again quite a few years ago. I also like anything set in Tudor times.

I used to love Wilbur Smith. He does series so you can really fall in love with the characters. My favourites are the Ancient Egypt series and the Courteney Series (but only a few of them, the ones that follow Hal and then his sons)

I read all of Jean Plaidy’s books over 40 years ago and loved them. Also read most of her Victoria Holt books and Phillipa Carr books too!
