Years ago, but it’s still with me: High Hearts by Rita Mae Brown. As the South secedes from the Union, a young woman (a skilled equestrian) disguises herself as a boy to join the Confederacy cavalry and find her husband to fight alongside him. The author researched the diaries and handed-down stories of Confederate women and slaves. If you care to read the Foreword, here’s the link. https://books.google.com/books/about/High_Hearts.html?id=-CBTJQeDljcC&printsec=frontcover&source=kp_read_button

I have high praise for Fiona Davis for sure.
I love historical fiction. I finished writing one that involves Renaissance Florence that will be out later this week – I’m not promoting it, so won’t mention the name. I fell in love with Renaissance Florence in 1974 when my Form 4 History teacher made it come alive. It’s taken 45 years to write the book about the people I fell in love with as I’ve been busy 😀 but there’s something about mixing history and fiction that I love.
