I read the book many years ago. Interesting topic and view on Life but the pace is extremely slow. You get attached to the characters and their eccentricity. The film condensed the events and put even more colours into the story (I personally enjoyed the film more than I appreciated the book).
I wasn’t sure all the way through while reading it but got to the end & was totally wowed when I looked back. I read this in my “real” book club several years ago…. It was our all time most stimulating discussion book that we still reminisce about now. Awesome book
Absolutely fantastic book. Didn’t think I would like it, but when we were trying to figure out how to borrow elibrary books to the kindle, this is the one my husband got for me and it is a great book. It really leaves you thinking!!!
SPOILER ALERT: Can I ask you about it? Its a stupid question but was it all a metphor? I mean the animals were really people, right? Thats how I interpreted it.
@Cassiek Spoiler Alert: I think he was alone the whole time and his mind invented the tiger to keep him company as a PTSD reaction. But your theory about it being another person is making me think again!
One of the few books I thoroughly enjoyed, but I’m the type that likes Love in the Time of Cholera and Eleanor Oliphant and didn’t like The Nightengale. I missed the movie when it came out, and wasn’t aware at the time that it was based on a book. After reading the book, I watched the movie, and loved it. I think the two complement each other best in that order, and if you read it, do try to catch the movie. The visuals are stunning.
I enjoyed it when I read it a few years ago. About the only Booker Prize winner so far in my life that I’ve ever finished. Tried one or two others but found them hard to get into and didn’t get far with them. Might give them another go, but then there are plenty of other books out there, so no point wasting time on something you’re not enjoying!
it is a wonderful read. you have to understand that he is an “unreliable narrator” and at the end you have to make the decision, which story was the truth. it was quite interesting…

It would take a pretty advanced child to understand all the allegory
I liked it. I didn’t think it was good as everyone unless that was reading it at that time.
Have and love it
One of my all time faves. Beginning a bit slow, stick with it.
I really did not enjoy this book

One of few where the movie and the book were both great, for different reasons
I hated the movie…. maybe the book will be better
Beautiful book
I loved it. Definitely worth reading.
I loved the book and the movie. The book was a prescribed book when my son was at school, so I got to read it that way.

I really liked it. There’s tons of interpretations to it and I still think about certain passages now and then.
Loved it! And it’s not what I usually read.
I know lots of people loved this book. Unfortunately I wasn’t one of them!
I gave up on it.
In high school but didn’t like it because I had to read it
