One of my favorites from last year, and I also liked the 2nd book in the series Us Against Them. But, if you need a book to grab your attention quickly, this may not be the book for you. There are a lot of characters in this book that need to get introduced, so for some, this book can seem like it moves slowly. I really just enjoy his writing.
We have a strong hockey community here on PEI so I was very interested in the story. It was also great to read a story from a northern climate as well.
Liked it very much – this is a really favorite author – and I need to say that I have 0 (that’s zero) interest in hockey. Also read the follow up – Us Against You and thought it was well worth reading.
As much as I don’t care for hockey, I found the story line very engaging! It was the first book I”d read by Fredrik Backman. I enjoyed his writing style so much that I followed Bear Town up with two of his other books, which included: A Man Called Ove & Britt Marie Was Here. I enjoyed those books as well.
Not one of my favorites. It was ok.
Loved it.
One of my favourites. He has certainly come a long ways in his writing.

@Ellen I agree with you. ?
@Lorrie ok…sometimes I miss the meaning of text shorthand
I’ll have to try it again thanks
I loved Beartown. I thought A Man Called Ove was just ok. I found Beartown just grabbed me. Deep characters and relationships.
I feel the exact opposite. Funny how different books work for different people.
A Man Called Ove was just not my cup of tea
It started slow, but was an amazing read!
I enjoyed it. It is definitely thought provoking.
Not good.
I was not impressed with it even if I have enjoyed his other books
The first half was slow and I wanted to put it down.. but stick with it.. amazing!
I liked it eventually….took awhile!
I liked it, and even if you don’t like hockey, you can easily replace it with another sports culture, like football or baseball.
I loved this book, one of the best I read that year. Lots to think about, and discuss if you’re reading it for book club.
@Joan our book club had a FANTASTIC discussion about this deep book!

I’m right there with you!
So so
I enjoyed it. I like all of his books
Really liked it and the sequel I liked even more. Us Against Them
Enjoyed the book but darker in comparison to his other books and the sequel Us Against You is much darker but equally good.
I loved it!? There is another book in the series too, but I can’t remember what it is called. Both were very good.
Loved it and the sequel

I loved it. Very difficult topic but well worth reading.
Great book, but difficult topic.
It’s just ok. If I was a big hockey fan it may have been better.
