Anne Frank’s Diary. I read it before visiting and then toured the attic where she hid with her family. Poignant.

I’ve just started The German Girl, Ww2 in Germany, and a book partially set in Holland is The Good Pilot Peter Underwood.
Goodbye to Berlin by Christopher Isherwood (which was also the inspiration for the music Cabaret!)

Yes! I forgot about this one. Excellent choice. Then go to the museums.
The painting is at the Maritshuis at The Hague a train ride from Amsterdam but the book gives a good look at Dutch life.
The Goldfinch by D. Tartt and Purity by J. Franzen……………All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr
The Words in My Hand by Guinevere Glasfurd – brilliant book set in Amsterdam – the houses she mentions are still there too!
If you’d like some non fiction too I highly recommend Amsterdam by Russell Shorto.
En veel plezier in Nederland ?
The Miniaturist by Jesse Burton. Very Dutch!
