Mine, too. An extremely important read for all. We MUST know our past to avoid the same pitfalls in the future. It takes more than a village to save our world; it takes everyone, every day!
I have read this book every year for years. To remind myself of how lucky I am and the strength that humans can have. Every time I read it I cry and am heartbroken, but it was a story that had to be told. A couple of other great books along the same line are “Man’s Search For Meaning” by: Viktor Frankl and “The Hiding Place” by: Corrie Ten Boom. I just got “The Lilac Girls” and am told it is a great book on the same subject.
My daughter teaches 8th grade lit & English. Years ago they had an Holocaust survivor to speak at their school. This is part of their required reading still.
So beautifully and sensitively written. He reveals the horror and then saves you from the torture of it so we cancel the depth and not have to wallow. Genius. ❤️
I read this book a few months ago, since then I’ve read a lot of holocaust books and The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich. I had to know more. If you’re interested in staying with the genre, I have a list of what I’ve read since and have put on my TBR
Yep. Read it in school in like 1990 and reread it after the election last year (maybe December?) got to the end and reread it a third time immediately. The speed at which everything moved from normal to “trains” was incredibly powerful.
My students start that book our first week back from Winter Break. It’s a hard one, but a valuable read.
I always taught that to my 8th graders after break. Heartbreaking but such good material for learning and discussion.
Agreed. I teach 10th. It’s usually one of the most anticipated units of the year. So much to learn from his memoir.
I’m going to add this into my 8th grade next year…..
It’s a must read to me, Kim.
@Sheree it’s not on our “board approved” list…. gonna have to read it out loud
It’s a must read, though, for everyone.

Have you read the other two books?
No, this is my first. I will be looking for his other books

I will look for those as well. Thanks!
Has anyone read his book Dawn?
Yes and also have read Day. All three books are excellent just different parts of the story
@Barbara Good to know. I’ll look them up.
I bought them as a trilogy
Simon Weisenthal’s The Sunflower is a challenging read, another first person experience in the WWII concentration camps. Shredded my heart, also.
yes
Night should be compulsory reading in schools.
It was for my sons. They introduced tombs book to us (their dad and me). Made for serious discussions. So grateful for their required reading lists!

Yes. Twilight is wonderful too

Kind of a different genre for her.
@Sandie what’s your favorite Picoult book? (This ones my first by her )
Gosh, I’ve liked them all. Just bought the Storyteller based on your post. Always gut wrenching,.

That would be great Diane!
That would be great Diane. I also want to know more
Yes.
Yes. This book never goes away after you’ve read it…
Life changing. You will never be the same after reading it. Should be required reading for every human on our planet.
Thank you for the warning. heartbreaking books not my thing, so i will avoid it.
But it’s also enlightening….
A tough but vitally important read.
Yep. Read it in school in like 1990 and reread it after the election last year (maybe December?) got to the end and reread it a third time immediately. The speed at which everything moved from normal to “trains” was incredibly powerful.
Think its time to read it again.
