I’m sure I read that Emma Donoghue has a habit of doing this with her novels – that is, they’re rooted in some kind of truth. I think it goes for Room and Frog Music, at least. Don’t quote me though, I’m fantastic at misremembering things sometimes.
@Katia I actually don’t read them much, lol? I’ve read novels like War & Peace and A Tale of Two Cities, but I prefer to watch historical movies rather than read historical novels, if that makes any sense. (Which is strange since what I’m writing now is actually a historical novel!?)
Excellent price, I think I need to look out for another copy it’s been years since I read it. When I left home my brother binned all the books I’d left (couldn’t take them with me at the time.) He even threw out my great grans encyclopedias that I loved ???
I just bought Burial Rites by Hannah Kent. I haven’t read it yet, but it’s supposed to be based on true event. Also The Ringmasters Wife – read that one, was good.
