Well, there’s a series that I’m reading. It is called “An Unfortunate Fairytale”. I have another, it’s the ” Neverwood Chronicles”. It is a retelling of Peter Pan. Both series are written by Chanda Hanh.
I just finished ‘To Kill a Kingdom’ on audio book and it was absolutely a grown up version of the little mermaid. It’s technically a YA novel but I think that is just because there is no sex or bad language.
If you read YA – The Lunar Chronicles, that is 4 books. Also Flame in the Mist based off Mulan. I’m not sure if that is a fairytale or just a Disney movie.
Naomi Novik Uprooted and Spinning Silver. Robin McKinley Beauty, Spindle’s End and Deerskin. Mercedes Lackey has a series of retold fairy tales…first one is The Fire Rose.
Dorothy Must Die was really good. I only read the first one though. I had a hit or miss with the Luna Chronicles. I didn’t like Cinder. I loved scarlet. I didn’t like the other books. Fairest was good.
Christina Henry and Gregory Maguire spring to mind. But one of my favorites is a short story by Neil Gaiman titled Snow, Glass, Apples. Your can find it in the book Smoke and Mirrors.
Ellen Datlow and Terri Wilding have a lot of collections of short stories that are based on faerie tales: Snow White, Blood Red, Silver Birch, Blood Moon, Black Heart, Ivory Bones, Ruby Slippers, Golden Tears, etc.
Angela Carter’s The Bloody Chamber and Anne Sexton’s Transformations.
Also, it’s a film not a book, but Billy Elliot is a re-telling of “The Ugly Duckling.”
Wicked series by Gregory Maguire is good even if it’s not based on a fairytale
Naomi Novik has done a few of these, Spinning Silver and Uprooted.

@Kristy that was sooooo good. I couldn’t put it down.

the book of lost things by john connelly is inspired heavily by grimms fairytales, and chris colfer’s land of stories
@Nicole I just ordered Alice and The Red Queen from this author.
I haven’t read her others but this one was good.
One of my favorite books. Fairytale is Koschei the Deathless.
The same author has a shorter book, Six Gun Snow White, which is Snow White in the old west. It’s sparse but fun.
Anything by Disney is a re-telling
You might like The Hazel Wood

The Lunar Chronicles
A Touch of Gold
Hunted
Most books by Robin McKinley and Shannon Hale.
If you like graphic novels, the Grimm Fairy Tales are amazing! They have some interesting twists…and can be quite dark

All of the Disney movies are retellings.
